«I love all seven equally» – this phrase has long become an unspoken rule within the fandom. It sounds beautiful, brings people together, and emphasizes respect for every member of the group. But the beauty of an idea and its psychological validity are not always the same thing.

Modern psychology does not claim that people are incapable of loving more than one person at the same time. On the contrary, we can genuinely love many people: our parents, children, friends, and mentors. However, attachment theory, developed by John Bowlby and later expanded by Mary Ainsworth and other researchers, describes an important pattern: the people who matter most to us are almost always organized into a hierarchy.

Bowlby wrote that attachment is directed toward «one or a few specific individuals, usually in a clear order of preference». To me, that's the most fascinating part.

Not because the others matter less. And not because we consciously choose one person over another. It's simply how the human mind works. Our brains naturally organize emotional priorities. We can admire many people, respect them equally, and feel genuine affection for all of them. But emotional closeness is rarely perfectly symmetrical.

That's why I think many people confuse different feelings

- respecting everyone equally is possible
- appreciating everyone's contribution is possible
- not wanting to hurt anyone is completely natural

But taking the statement «I love all seven equally» literally doesn't align very well with what psychology tells us about human attachment.
Sometimes, watching what happens within the fandom, I feel that this phrase says less about people's feelings and more about their fear. The fear of being seen as not «OT7 enough» if they honestly admit:

«Yes, one person is especially important to me».

Perhaps that's exactly why K-pop has the concept of a bias. Not because the other members aren't loved. But because one person evokes the strongest emotional response. That's not a betrayal of the group. It's a perfectly normal feature of human psychology.

Personally, I think it's far more honest to say:

«I respect all seven. But I love one in a special way».

There's no disrespect toward the others in that statement. No competition. No attempt to prove that one member is better than the rest. Only an honest acknowledgment of how human emotions actually work.

And you know what? To me, that's what real respect looks like: not forcing your feelings to match other people's expectations, but having the courage to acknowledge them for what they truly are.
