Excited to read this preprint by @YiZuoUCSC, using 2p imaging to track spines following psilocybin.
Many similarities with our findings. The new study crucially also tested dose dependence and dived deep into spine characteristics like clustering.

@therealRYC The head twitch has been demonstrated to be a readout of 5HT2A receptor psychedelic potency, not a readout of “psychedelic experiences.”
I don’t think it’s possible to evolve on this issue bc we can’t ask mice about their subjective experiences. We test the hypothesis in humans
Very cool structural biology and molecular pharmacology study on psychedelic mechanisms of action.
But, I cringe at references to hallucinations in mice, even with qualifiers about limitations of animal models. We need to be more precise in our descriptions of animal behavior!
🚨 The NO TRIP mushroom for depression
We finally know how psychedelics cause hallucinations vs. therapeutic effects at the 5-HT2A receptor.
Gi signaling drives the trip, Gq drives the relief.
And they just designed a non-hallucinogenic analog to prove it 🧵

The sleeping brain influences the waking mind.
This was a fun one. A brief one-stop shop to sleep theory, measurement, and interpretation, with a focus on the EEG and its relevance to psychiatric research.
Hope it's useful!
@BrownPsychiatry@BradleyHospital
Our new Deep Dive covers a study by @Auerbach_Lab_CU@DPagliaccio@CarterFunkhous1 & colleagues, which linked EEG-based brain connectivity patterns with emotional expression from text messages to identify neural markers of depressive symptoms in teens

Recapping the #ACNP2026 study group, “Centering Lived Experience in Psychiatric Neuroscience Research”
We asked the panelists, what could NIH leadership do to be more supportive of trainees with non-traditional career paths, which is common among researchers with lived experience of mental illness?
Our latest Deep Dive covers a study that developed a deep learning model to classify sleep stages from single channel EEG recordings in rats🐀. It predicted key parameters of sleep architecture, reducing the need for labor-intensive manual annotation.

We're interested in hiring a post-baccalaureate research associate to work in circuit and systems neuroscience studies of anxiety. Please reach out - my email is listed at https://t.co/oXlkPsGXk0 - if interested or share with undergraduate/recent grads who may be interested.
Recent US data shows overdose deaths involving both synthetic opioids & stimulants rose from 2018 until 2023, then declined sharply in 2024, driven by decreases in opioid-involved deaths. Despite recent declines, polydrug overdose mortality remains high
