Musk thought he could throw a public tantrum and bully India into handing him a telecom monopoly, but he completely miscalculated.

“Elon Musk picked the wrong moment to lecture Indians.

Frustrated that Starlink had not been cleared to launch in that country, he accused the government of protecting Mukesh Ambani whose telecom network Jio will launch its own satellite service.

Musk cast himself as the champion of ordinary Indians against one of the country's richest men. It backfired. India's government dismissed his accusation as baseless.

An influential nationalist group close to the ruling party went further demanding that Starlink be kept out of India altogether citing national security. Media and online reactions were similarly hostile to Starlink.

Musk did not understand that in India as in much of the world, trust in America is collapsing. Indians have watched as Donald Trump has discarded 25 years of bipartisan outreach to New Delhi in favor of cozying up to Pakistan and its de facto dictator Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Quincy Jones produced Thriller, the best-selling album of all time. Michael Jackson’s estate said he was owed $392,000.

Quincy’s nickname for Michael was “Smelly.” He called him his little brother.

In the video below, Michael calls Oprah’s show to say hi: “I love you more, Quincy.” Years later, Quincy says what the estate was really after: “It’s just the money. The estate, the lawyers.”

While they made Bad, Michael told his manager that Quincy was “losing it.” His next plan was to hire rap producers and pay them “five times what they were paying me.”

After Michael died in 2009, his estate reused the old recordings. The movie “This Is It” made $261 million. Then came two Cirque du Soleil shows and new remixes. Quincy said his contracts gave him a cut every time those masters were used.

He asked for $30 million. In 2017, a jury gave him $9.4 million.

Quincy’s statement: “This lawsuit was never about Michael.”

In 2020, an appeals court cut the award to $2.5 million. The estate’s lawyer said they had been vindicated.

The case for the estate: Quincy got paid as producer decades ago, and every dollar he wins comes out of the money left to Michael’s kids.

Quincy died in 2024. He was 91.

One man built the sound. The other man’s estate decided what it was worth.

So was Quincy protecting his work, or cashing in on his little brother?
