Rebuilding Eva was in large part a mix of lingering dissatisfaction from the mixed reception to NGE's finale + the struggle to create something not Eva. Ultimately, its success allowed him to support both anime & tokusatsu. Might not have Yuri on Ice or Shin Godzilla without it.
