I think you guys forget it is quite literally their job to try and gain loyal fans who will continue to show up to events and support them. That's why they do fanservice and make sure the fan has a good time, they *want* them to want to come back.

I forgot who it was but I remember an idol posting a message after he appeared on b2p and went back to his original group, he said he noticed a lot of his usual fans he was used to seeing hadn't been showing up and it was making him worry and wonder if they hated him now. It's a COMFORT to see the same fans are still supporting you and honestly I don't think that changes even if it's a big group.

Plus, I don't know why you people have such a hard time fathoming that an idol might enjoy seeing a familiar face of a longtime fan. They're people-- yes, it's a fan/idol relationship and not some real personal friendship developing--but that doesn't mean they can't develop a rapport with someone and enjoy talking to them or feel happy when they see them. They can enjoy that AND they can also enjoy seeing new faces. When i was a barista i had regulars who would come in and I'd be excited to see them bc our interactions were always nice and I knew what i was getting with them. It's the same woth idols, they can and do form human connections with fans. And yes, some fans do take the parasocial aspect too far and a lot of the interactions that go viral are the weird ones. But there's also many more normal ones. But as long as the person isn't a weirdo and constantly doing things to make them uncomfortable, why wouldn't they enjoy seeing a familiar face and knowing this person still supports them?
