Juneteenth commemorates the important milestone of the emancipation of enslaved African Americans. The anniversary commemorates the order by Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger proclaiming freedom in Texas on June 19, 1865, where some of the last enslaved people in the U.S. were told of their freedom. Slavery was officially abolished with the passage and ratification of the 13th Amendment in 1865.
Our Black/African American Employee Resource Group organized several activities on campus to celebrate this significant day. They led a special bingo game for our patients, invited local food trucks for lunch and hosted a booth at the Juneteenth in da Rock event this weekend.
Arkansas Children’s is proud to recognize and celebrate Juneteenth!
