Sports media turned heath care data guy. Yay: Hartford, Red Sox, UConn hoops. Boo: Winter, pitch-framing, pandemics. The Pantheon: Pippen, Pedro, Kemba.
@soshbill Yeah, don’t disagree. Get a new person to run baseball and it might not be low.
Forest/trees. They stink rn. The macro: It’s a historic franchise in a major city with a wealthy, passionate fan base and ownership group that’s miles better than most. It’s a *great* job.
I lean anti-Breslow. I don’t think he was qualified in the first place. I think he totally bungled the Devers sitch. He’s seemingly lost the org under him. And seems like people outside the org aren’t fond of him, either.
With that said, a lot of the criticisms are pretty unfair
@soshbill (Not that you’re saying that it’s a bad job that no one wants. But that was def the vibe there years ago when everyone was turning them down. People need to calm down.)
@soshbill In their defense, a lot of the people they were reportedly interested in turned them down for family reasons. It’s pretty silly to claim it’s a bad job no one wants.
It’ll also be easier to get someone if they’re allowed to pick their own manager (and entire scouting staff (!!))
@kjhogo I meeeeean ngl this is basically where I am too. Idk. It’s not like he’s done such a great job that I think it’d be a mistake to can him.
But like also this is, what, the 20th percentile outcome? It’s crazy.
For the most part, Breslow’s moves have been good. He’s had some misses, but no one bats 1.000.
Is it his fault their returning players aren’t hitting? Maybe! But, really, who knows?
The other stuff, though… kinda why I think he’s gotta go.
Breslow holds on to Duran, and he gets criticized for not being willing to lose a trade to plug holes.
He gives up Tibbs and Harrison to plug holes, and he’s criticized for losing trades. (Though this is another reason I think he’s probably gotta go.)
@mattymatty2000 This is the best negative Sox take I’ve seen this season.
I guess I could push back a bit on league-average ROS — I do think they can be above that — but hard to see it right now. Especially with PECOTA’s pessimism out there. We’ll see. Anyway, fair take.
Twitter has been an amazing source for finding smart people doing cool things for over a decade now. And @Colin_Hanley1's site is fantastic (and want to thank @totally_t_bomb for sharing it).
