Karma doesn’t arrive with noise or announcements, it arrives wearing the face of your own actions. And it makes you sit with them until you truly understand.
Years ago, I lost a family member to commercial sex work. She contracted HIV and couldn’t accept it. Within two years, it progressed to AIDS. I nursed her for three weeks before she died. I had her phone throughout and it kept buzzing 🧵
You feel tense around them instead of relaxed.
Your energy drops after spending time with them.
Your stomach feels uneasy or anxious before seeing them.
You avoid physical closeness without knowing why.
You feel relief when they leave.
You overthink everything they say or do.
Your mood worsens when they’re around.
I just pray that I don’t have friends who will see me doing the wrong thing but still cheer me on.
Some of you need to learn how to tell the truth to people in your corner regardless of how they may take it. 🌚
I believe that people's actions can make it clear that they have no respect or regard for you, regardless of what they say. Their actions clearly indicate that they don't value you. When you notice this, take it for what is!
Was I wrong?
One of my friends was getting married, and she asked me to join in her asoebi. The cost of the asoebi was ₦100k. I declined, explaining that I don't do bridal asoebi that I have to pay.
On her wedding day, I put far more than ₦100k in an envelope and gave her. She gladly accepted it. A few days after the wedding, I started hearing some things she had said about me. I called her to verify, and she was honest enough to admit that she wasn't happy I hadn't joined in the asoebi. The friendship is now shaky😑
For more context, I've only done asoebi twice in my life, and I didn't pay for either one. Call me old-school, but I believe bridal asoebi should be free. I don't know how it became the norm that we have to pay for it.
