China has tacky LED-covered cities, fast and cheap infrastructure, BUT fake human rights. There, it is ok to dehumanize and torture your children without consequences. We should not view China as a competitor, that only pulls US down to their level.

The more we try to directly compete with China, the more we lose sight of our own values. Education can be reformed, but what outcome are we incentivizing? Contrasting everything with China is an unproductive strategy for rhetoric and policy. Ignore China — their system incentivizes test-takers. Those people are not thinking as citizens.

You need a better marketing team to advise you. What “serious improvements” should be made? How do you deal with the cultural differences across the state (not talking about immigrant minorities)? What are better ways to evaluate student performance? Should the emphasis be on college-track or vocational-track?
