The Finance Bill 2026 seeks to strengthen the efficiency, fairness and administration of the tax system while supporting the implementation of the FY 2026/27 Budget.
I met the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning during their retreat in Kiambu County to clarify key proposals contained in the Finance Bill, 2026 and provide additional information on the policy rationale underpinning the proposed measures.
Kelvin Gitau is a 24-year-old entrepreneur behind Young Don Farm in Githunguri, a dairy venture that now makes up to Ksh 450k in monthly profit. The farm sits on a 100×100 plot and houses at least 42 Friesian cows, but it started small and took years to build. Growing up, Kelvin never imagined dairy farming would make him a millionaire because his dream was to become a lawyer. However, after immersing himself in farming, the returns were so substantial that he never looked back.
The idea started during the pandemic when Kelvin decided to plant coriander during the dry season instead of staying idle. He made 70 beds, irrigated them, and each bed earned him at least Ksh 2,000 at harvest. Using that money, he bought his first two cows and started out in his father’s shed. His dad inspired him because he had managed to educate all four of his siblings using just five cows on a small scale. Kelvin figured if five cows could do that, a larger operation could do much more.
To scale up, Kelvin registered with a SACCO and supplied milk from his two cows, which produced 50 litres daily. In a few months he had saved about Ksh 300k in shares, and the SACCO gave him a loan three times that amount. With the Ksh 900,000 loan, he bought more cows and expanded the farm into the robust operation it is today. What a great mind…!
Wajir surprised me.
In most counties, the gift you receive is a chicken, a goat, or a beer. Whether you drink or not, In Wajir, the gift is a book.
I was gifted 7 books by local authors. Tonight I opened one, Echoes of Struggle by university student Mohammed Abdi.
Big good mistake.
It is almost 3a.m. and I cannot put it down.
Beautiful storytelling. Rich culture. Humour. Love. Heartbreak. Wajir brought to life through words.
Page 93, I cannot wait to wake and finish the compelling story. I have just ordered several more copies of the book from him
Kenya is full of talent.

Now Treasury PS Dr. Chris Kiptoo has awarded Hillary Kiplagat Kibiwott a brand-new Toyota Probox in recognition of his record-breaking feat of planting 23,326 trees in 24 hours, pending official confirmation by Guinness World Records.
I thank H.E. William Ruto and the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) for organising the Africa We Build Summit. I am glad that the AFC are speaking my language, the language of revolution.
Africa’s GDP is only about $3.6 trillion despite our vast land and population. Countries like China were once very poor but transformed themselves through discipline, clarity of purpose, and investment. Therefore, Africa’s problem is not money; it is ideological.

Today, KALRO Beef Research Institute – Lanet conducted a tree-planting exercise to promote environmental conservation and contribute to national restoration efforts. The activity was led by the Deputy Institute Director, Mr. Patrick Mwangi, on behalf of the Institute Director, Dr. Tura Isako.
In his remarks, Mr. Mwangi urged staff to embrace their role as environmental stewards beyond simply planting trees. He emphasized the importance of ongoing care, protection, and incorporating tree growing into daily practices, noting that meaningful and lasting impact depends on collective responsibility and sustained commitment. He further highlighted the significance of such initiatives in nurturing a culture of sustainability, encouraging participants to rally behind the “Jaza Miti Initiative.”
By increasing tree cover, the exercise not only supports climate change mitigation efforts but also enhances the institute’s research environment, particularly in advancing sustainable industrial crop production.

Dr Susan Otieno, Centre Director at the KALRO HRI -National Potato Research Centre Tigoni hosted a high-level delegation from Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) led by Dr. Davis Nguthi, Country Director of AGRA Kenya, alongside David Ojigo, Director of Research and Innovation at the Ministry of Agriculture.
The delegation, which included Permanent Secretaries from various African countries, visited KALRO Tigoni to strengthen collaboration on building a more efficient and sustainable potato seed system across the continent, with a focus on innovative approaches such as apical cuttings technology for rapid seed multiplication.
Through the AGRA-Kenya Sustainable Potato Initiative (KSPI), a consortium bringing together KALRO, Egerton University, and National Potato Council of Kenya (NPCK), partners are working to enhance farmers’ access to high-quality seed of appropriate potato varieties.
The initiative aims to increase the production of certified seed potato and high-quality planting materials by 40% over the next three years using sustainable approaches.
Hearty congratulations to David Keter on winning the hotly contested UDA nomination for Emurua Dikirr Constituency. Your patience, persistence, and resilience have finally paid off.
To Bernard Ng’eno, who came a close second, well done for putting up a spirited fight. You have demonstrated great strength and sportsmanship, and you undoubtedly have a bright future ahead.
I commend the people of Emurua Dikirr for maintaining peace and turning out in large numbers to exercise their democratic right today.
This was a truly unique contest—one fought through music and poetry, day and night, in an atmosphere defined by peace and civility. It is a political culture that is not only refreshing but also worth emulating across the country.
Joined H.E. Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki and the visiting Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, Han Zheng, to flag off the first consignment of Kenyan products destined to the port of Mombasa for export duty-free to China.
This flag-off event marks the first export dispatch to China under the Zero Tariffs for Stronger Cooperation framework. It also introduces the Kenya–China Cool Logistics Corridor, leveraging both SGR and port infrastructure for smoother trade.
The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) has already transported over 15.2 million passengers and 45 million tonnes of freight, showing its huge impact on Kenya’s economy and connectivity.
Kenya’s coffee, tea, avocado, nuts, fruits, flowers, and minerals can now enter China tariff-free, boosting incomes for millions of farmers and traders.
Kenya is positioning transport infrastructure not just as a domestic backbone, but as a regional trade enabler and a green growth driver.
Engaged the Export-Import Bank of China delegation led by Ms. Zhu Jia on structuring innovative financing and investment partnerships across the aviation and transport sectors.
The continued partnership with China Eximbank signals strong prospects for concessional and blended financing, easing fiscal pressure while fast-tracking the delivery of critical infrastructure in the country.
We are mobilizing capital, de-risking projects, and unlocking bankable infrastructure to accelerate trade, create jobs, and firmly position Kenya as East Africa’s gateway.
