@SaraPerla8 I was once at an event where Cardinal Dolan was the speaker. He mentioned that part of this tradition was the idea that when the galero fell the cardinal had been released from purgatory. He then added that he hoped this wasn’t true as he’d wired the ones in St. Pat’s up there.
A 79-year-old Catholic priest, Fr. Larry Holland, who is recovering from a hip fracture at Vancouver General Hospital in Canada, said he was offered Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) twice by hospital staff, even though he made clear he is a Catholic priest and morally opposed to euthanasia.

@roddreher Respectfully Rod, maybe you should let the Catholic laity decide what our spiritual energy is. Also not for nothing but Cardinal McElroy is probably the most qualified person in America to comment on the relationship between faith and American foriegn policy.
Our firm mourns the loss of Alan Farrer, our former Managing Partner, a skilled litigator & deeply loved by so many. You can’t lead a firm for 2+ decades without becoming more than colleagues — you become family. Alan helped shape not only the firm, but the people within it. /1
@Virgil19BC@ringw0rm_tattoo@LeMeTellUSumtin the government’s narrative should be taken on faith. I think there is enough evidence to the contrary, including statements from his ex-wife, to cast serious doubt on the claims made by Secretary Noem and ICE, and as such I am not comfortable arriving at conclusion you did or /2
@Virgil19BC@LeMeTellUSumtin Respectfully, I haven’t said anything about the LEOs or the religion of either Alex Petrri or any LEOs involved. I’ve
critiqued your comments on Mr. Petrri’s character based on a time honored school of Catholic moral thought which would apply regardless of the religion.
@ringw0rm_tattoo@Virgil19BC@LeMeTellUSumtin aequiprobablism would at the very least require one to withholding judgment and highly favour treating him as not guilty of opposition to ICE based on the current evidence. 2/2
@ringw0rm_tattoo@Virgil19BC@LeMeTellUSumtin There’s not indisputable proof of that and evidence seems to be pointing otherwise. As such until there is unbiased indisputable proof none of the three main schools of Catholic judgement would allow one to make such an argument about Alex Perriti and the preferred school 1/
@Virgil19BC@LeMeTellUSumtin And since we cannot prove that he did this and the most reasonable evidence points to the more probable outcome that he didn’t, until any of those allegations can be proven we must, per St. Alphonsus Liguori, the prince of moral theologians, assume that he is not guilty of 1/2
@Virgil19BC@LeMeTellUSumtin of Mr. Perriti’s actions as read through the Catholic moral tradition and your presentation of the effects of sanctifying grace which while not technically wrong is reductive and legalistic (in the bad sense.) 2/2
@Virgil19BC@LeMeTellUSumtin Given that it was the topic of my doctoral dissertation, I’d say it’s pretty good. Once again while this is included in both grace and glory, they’re so much more than just that. I’m taking separate onus with what I see as your inaccurate portrayal of the perceived sinfulness 1/
@Virgil19BC@LeMeTellUSumtin I am not arguing against sanctifying grace. I am arguing against your assumption that anyone can tell if another person has simultaneously fulfilled all three conditions for mortal sin without a special gift of actual grace or that anyone but God can know our persevering state.
@Virgil19BC@LeMeTellUSumtin would be an injustice against our fellow Christian whom as St. Igantius of Loyola reminds us we have a duty to assume the best of all the more since he isn’t hear to defend himself. May he rest in Christ’s peace and rise in His glory. 7/7
@Virgil19BC@LeMeTellUSumtin follow St. Alphonsus Liguori in applying aequiprobablism we can go further and say since the weight of evidence favours innocence, we can and should assume him to be innocent until such time as unbiased credible evidence can give us moral certitude either way. To do otherwise 6/
@Virgil19BC@LeMeTellUSumtin I didn’t say that this wasn’t included. I said that your definition was too narrow. The teaching of the Church supports me on that.
