"I believe that there is a need in education for the ‘good-enough’ teacher, particularly in response to the tyranny of the ‘outstanding’ teacher (which is a form of perfectionism, in my opinion). The good-enough teacher goes their best to care for & educate their class…" 1/2
There is no formula for writing/recording/communicating info about young people in a trauma-informed way but @InnovateProj research helped us identify some helpful things to consider. Check out this amazing graphic @MichiMathias created to help us share our learning 👇
It's part time and I still have 1 day a week to play with, so if there are any jobs going (teaching or research) that can be done on a Thursday then please send them my way!
What false economy. UCL is closing its flagship EP course due to lack of govt funding. Today govt research confirms - there aren't enough EPs! https://t.co/lENSIlgvhU?
I find Twitter rather depressing these days, but this has lifted my mood to no end. Crying actual tears of laughter at some of the comments ('Magma Carta' *snort*).

[2 parents, both English professors, one a Shakespearean, give a long and age-inappropriate synopsis]
5yo: Wow.
Me: Yeah. It’s sad.
5yo: Yeah. I can’t believe they FELL in LAVA!

@Moll_etheridge Using my outlook calendar as a writing planner, putting in blocks for each section I was working on. I often didn't keep to it, but it gave me short targets to work towards.
17/end. So, because I walk in t footsteps of so many brave young people, whose Rights we have championed through the #UNCRC , I wanted to say aloud: Please don't sacrifice compassion for children when times get hard for adults. The needs of both can be met. Through relationships.
9. A trauma-informed approach isn't abt feeling sorry or making excuses. It is abt understandng that biological states (inc distress) drive human behaviour. If you don't apply this insight, you make things worse. If you don't pay attentn to relationships, you make things worse.

@Keir_Starmer Please take this kind of research into account when developing your education policy for the next general election! Reform is needed to improve educational outcomes and experience of students, not more toxic talk of 'raising standards'.

A Tale of Everyday Parenting
When I arrived in the bakery queue there was a small boy standing alone in front of me. He was crying. His parents were standing awkwardly nearby.
’Go ahead’ the mother said to me. Then she said to the man, “I’ll handle this, see you at home” 1/
