Di Korsel lagi rame soal film 암살자들 The Assassin(s) yang dinilai mendistorsi sejarah penembakan ibu negara, Yuk Young Soo pada tahun 1974

Film The Assassin(s) mengangkat kisah Yuk Young Soo, istri Presiden Park Chung Hee, yang tewas ditembak pada 1974. Pelakunya secara resmi adalah Moon Segwang.

Tapi di film, ada beberapa adegan yang mempertanyakan apakah ada pihak lain di balik penembakan itu. Bahkan ada pembahasan soal KCIA dan orang di atas KCIA. Karena Park Chunghee saat itu adalah presiden, hal ini dianggap bisa membuat penonton berpikir Park mungkin ikut terlibat dalam kejadian tersebut.

Bahkan judulnya juga ikut dirujak 😭 Penggunaan 암살자들 (para pembunuh) dianggap mengisyaratkan kalau pelaku penembakan Yuk Young Soo bukan cuma Moon Se Gwang, tapi ada pihak lain di baliknya.

Nah, seorang politisi Korea bernama Lee Jong Bae nggak terima. Dia kemudian melaporkan sutradara, produser, dan penulis film ke polisi karena dianggap mencemarkan nama baik Park Chung Hee lewat informasi yang dianggap tidak benar.

Pihak film sendiri bilang mereka nggak bermaksud mengubah atau memutarbalikkan sejarah bahkan menetapkan siapa yang jadi dalang. Filmnya memang mengambil kejadian dan tokoh nyata sebagai dasar, tapi kemudian direkonstruksi dengan imajinasi film. Mereka juga menegaskan kalau dugaan atau setting dalam film nggak pernah dimaksudkan sebagai fakta sejarah.

The “Sunjae” phenomenon that began with Lovely Runner continued even two years later.

After expanding his fandom both in Korea and abroad through his role as Ryu Sunjae in tvN’s 2024 drama Lovely Runner, Byeon Wooseok once again demonstrated his presence in 2026 with MBC’s 21st Century Grand Prince’s Wife, playing Grand Prince Lee Ahn, a man bound by the rules and constraints of the royal family.

The drama, in which he starred alongside IU, premiered with a 7.8% rating. By its fourth episode, it had already surpassed double-digit viewership, and the finale achieved the drama’s own highest nationwide rating of 13.8%. Byeon Wooseok delicately portrayed the emotions of a character torn between his status and responsibilities, carrying expectations for his post-Lovely Runner project into a new character.

Outside of television, Byeon Woo-seok has also continued expanding his connection with his global fandom. This year, he embarked on his second Asian fan-meeting tour, “The Secret Library.” The two-day Seoul performances held at Jamsil Indoor Stadium last July sold out entirely through advance reservations limited to fan-club members, reaffirming his strong popularity.

He then expanded the tour to major cities across Asia, meeting fans while continuing his work as an actor.
