Hi everyone, I'm goyong.
Recently, my wallet was hacked. Someone other than me gained access to my seed phrase, and as a result, offers on my assets were accepted without my consent and all the tokens I held were taken.
Here is how everything unfolded.
1. A collector approached me about a commissioned piece, and we had many conversations over the course of about a week. Since I had completed several commissions before, I used that time to carefully assess whether he was genuinely interested in my work or if it might be a scam. He demonstrated a high level of artistic knowledge and sincere enthusiasm, which led me to open up and begin preparing a formal contract.
2. He explained that he wanted a piece representing a company he was building with his partners. He said he had been deeply inspired by my previous commission, Family, and that was why he reached out. Over the week of conversations, I learned more about their business, and naturally the topic of their upcoming project came up. Because this was a commission, I truly wanted to create something meaningful and special for them.
3. From my perspective, everything seemed to be progressing smoothly. I visited a link they sent me, which was presented as a site explaining the project they were preparing. They said they wanted my feedback on their upcoming service. In order to access their server and review the material, I was instructed to download a file. Not long after that, my desktop was compromised.
4. I informed him immediately, but I did not receive a response that day. The following day, he replied. He said he could not understand how this had happened, apologized deeply for what had occurred, and promised to compensate for all the damage with his own fund. And he said he would check with his partners to understand what had gone wrong. According to him, the response he received from his partner was termination. He told me his partner had betrayed his trust and turned the project into a scam. He said he needed time to investigate the situation and figure out how to resolve it. Our last conversation was on Feb 13, and I have not heard from him since.
For about three weeks, I wrestled with many thoughts. Each night, the question resurfaced in my mind: what if he had approached me with the intention to deceive from the very beginning? Whenever that thought came up, I went back and reread our conversations, trying to examine everything as objectively as possible.
In the end, I chose to trust him. I have decided to believe that, I was a secondary victim in this situation. I will not reveal who he is. I have no desire to blame or expose anyone. Even if this had been a scam from the start, I may not have been able to avoid it. The depth of our conversations felt real, and looking back now, I can see that my knowledge and preparation around security were not sufficient. In a way, I am grateful that I learned this lesson now rather than facing an even greater incident later. Through this experience, I have learned a great deal. It became an opportunity to study security and network systems in depth. I reformatted and rebulit the setup of all my devices, and I invested in mutiply layers of protective measures.
After everything was taken, I looked around and realized that what remained was simply me, still able to create. A few days ago, I began slowly returning to what I love and want to express, organizing my thoughts and building new piece again. Strangely, as I did, my mood and mental state began to improve. Today I finally feel ready to share all of this.
The artist I admire most continued to create even through hardships far greater than this. If I truly respect them, then I must also create through my own trials.
This is a phrase I have always loved: God gives us only the pain we can endure, and through that pain, we grow. The day this happened was incredibly difficult, but thanks to the messages and support from so many people, I was able to stand back up. I am sincerely grateful.
I have decided not to carry any more negative emotions from this. I will begin again, focusing on what I love and what I want to build. So much has happened, but I will start again, step by step. Thank you
