Years before Robinhood changed retail investing, Vlad Tenev and Baiju Bhatt built their first company together: Solaris Trading. As Vlad later recalled, the idea was simple - “we would do algorithmic trading.”

We took that early idea and rebuilt it around a simple question: what if, instead of designing the best trading strategy, we let the market evolve one?

Solaris starts each generation with 100 strategies, equally funded by creator fees. Every Solaris has its own DNA - momentum, mean reversion, volatility, lookback, risk and a preferred stock pair - and uses it to trade real stock tokens onchain.

After every round, performance is measured and the weakest strategies are eliminated:

100 → 50 → 25 → 10 → 5 → 2 → 1

The remaining capital of every eliminated Solaris is used to buy back and burn the main token. The last surviving strategy becomes the parent of the next generation: its DNA is preserved, 99 mutated descendants are created, and the competition starts again.

No winning strategy is predetermined. Each generation is simply the result of the one before it, with the market deciding which traits survive.

Solaris began as Vlad and Baiju’s first attempt at algorithmic trading. We brought the name back to see what happens when trading algorithms are allowed to evolve.

The interesting part is that we don’t know what Solaris will become. Maybe evolution converges on momentum. Maybe mean reversion dominates. Maybe aggressive strategies disappear and conservative ones inherit the lineage. Every generation leaves an observable record of what changed, what failed, and what survived.

That’s exactly the problem we redesigned Solaris around.

Instead of betting everything on one algorithm, 100 different strategies compete for survival. The market eliminates what doesn’t work, preserves what does, and the winner becomes the foundation for the next generation.

They searched for the balance. We made finding it part of the evolution.
