During the era of Salahuddin Ayyubi (Saladin), there was a Crusader commander named Raynald. It is narrated that he intercepted a caravan of Muslim pilgrims, seized their belongings and refused to let them continue their journey.

When the pilgrims pleaded, saying they were on their way to perform Hajj, he reportedly mocked them by saying, "Call upon your Prophet Muhammad SAW to come and rescue you from me."

When news of this insult reached Salahuddin, he was seriously ill. He is said to have prayed:

"O my Lord, do not let me die until I have brought this man to justice."

By Allah's will, he recovered. In time, Allah granted him victory over the Crusaders.

After the victory, Salahuddin pardoned many of the defeated commanders. But when Raynald was brought before him, he remembered the reported insult directed at the Prophet Muhammad SAW. According to this narration, Salahuddin himself carried out his execution and declared:

"You once challenged them to call upon their Prophet. By Allah's decree, the Prophet Muhammad SAW has sent his servant, Salahuddin."
