🎼 Servais: Romanesca- Fameux Air de Danse du 16e Siècle by Francois Servais (1807-1866)
Second release from my new album Lise Cristiani
Like many of her contemporaries, Lise Cristiani enjoyed reviving themes from the distant past.
Jacques Offenbach also composed a version of La Romanesca, as well as a Musette based on a 17th-century air.
Lise Cristiani had a particular fondness for these nostalgic pieces with exotic accents, which featured almost systematically in her concert programmes.
🔉 Schubert’s Ave Maria arr. by Batta
Excited to share the first release from my new album dedicated to Lise Cristiani (1825–1853) — a trailblazing cellist who broke 19th-century social norms and brought classical music to places no one had dared to reach before.
🎻This track features Schubert’s Ave Maria (Ellens Gesang III, Hymn to the Virgin, D839), one of six lieder transcribed for cello by Alexandre Batta in the late 1830s. Batta was close to Lise and gifted her many of his transcriptions and compositions, which she performed on stage
