THOUGHTS: The Game Awards appears to have bent the rules this year (site updated Nov 15 according to Wayback Machine) to include Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree in the Game of the Year category nominees, when last year, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty was snubbed, despite being superior in every way, and transformative to the main game🚀
I’m genuinely tired of From Software exceptionalism. They create the exact same game every few years, an a dated engine, clunky animations and inferior visuals (save for art direction) and they are given their annual token and praise.
Meanwhile, other studios grovel to create something unique and original and superior in every aspect from gameplay to visuals to performance, and yet they are snubbed because they haven’t been deemed “cool” enough to earn that exceptionalism.
This isn’t hatred on the games. I played and platinumed Elden Ring, and I liked it, but as a GOTY winner, an expansion has no place being considered a “game” when it cannot even be accessed as a standalone experience, or even from the start of the game.
Players are also not excused from this hypocrisy when every time a remake is talked about, it gets discredited as “just another remake” or “just the same game” when it’s actually a meticulously crafted ground-up creation or a classic, that can very much be considered a new game, instead of an expansion, or even a new game that basically copies the same formula of its predecessors 🎤
@Speedkicks The power gap between King and Armor King is a lot bigger than some would like to admit AK is strong as hell and has room for more nerfs but King is functionally busted in the current state of the game.
That’s because Homunculus requires the reading comprehension of a 10th grader to follow. Most manga fans are illiterate which has caused the medium to be dominated with stories of “person punches person”. Not that some of those stories aren’t godlike btw.
The Norse saga combat is so much better than the Greek games I'm shocked it's even debate material. The gameplay to cutscenes ratio is also overwhelmingly in favor of the last two games yet it's them that get labeled "movies".
The lost children arc is the best piece of story telling I have ever experienced in a manga. Miura’s ink distilled to pure human suffering. I haven’t come across anything else that illustrates a person screaming while being under the thumb of God with the same level of sincerity.
At GoD there are a lot of Armor King players that share the exact same flowchart and its kind of sad. This character allows for so much expression imo. You can weave strings and opt in and out of stance at your discretion and make some disgusting things happen. Hit the LAB!
Got my God of Destruction promo today and regardless of what anyone may think or feel about the jpegs in Tekken 8 I can only look at this image through the lens of the effort I put into making it this far-
This was brutally difficult and I am so, so happy. 🥹
@papadrgnz It is shocking how it seems to enthusiastically fall short in almost every regard you can think of. I think you should watch it. Like I said- I own it. You should not be shocked that corpos don’t want to touch it anymore is all I really want to get across.
