Ekurhuleni under the EFF outperformed all Metros in financial reporting and financial performance.

Total revenue reached R52.3 billion, up 4.8% from R49.8 billion prior year.

The municipality recorded a surplus of R330 million.

Overall collection rate improved to 90.7% from 85% the prior year and this generated R3.7 billion in operating cash inflows, up R758 million year-on-year.

Debt impairment dropped 30.5% to R5.8 billion as more households qualified for indigent support.

Most importantly, payments to suppliers was maintained within 30-day terms, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery.

During the 2022/23 financial when Ekurhuleni received a clean audit, its financial performance was poor.

The Metro reported revenue of R49.3 billion and expenditure of R51 billion, resulting in an operating deficit of R1.65 billion.

Payments to suppliers exceeded the 30-day term and impacted on service delivery.
