Have you ever seen a Yakougai be de-shelled for eating? ππ€·π½ββοΈ
Yakougai (ε€ε θ²), or great green turban shell (Turbo marmoratus), is a large sea snail found in warm waters around southern Japan, especially Amami Oshima. Known for its beautiful mother-of-pearl shell, it's used in crafts and jewelry.
Its meat is considered a delicacy-firm, slightly sweet, and often served as sashimi or grilled. Preparing yakougai takes skill, as the shell is extremely hard and can damage knives if mishandled.
Valued both for its flavor and cultural importance, yakougai is protected by fishing regulations to ensure sustainability.
