My invitation to this important conversation is particularly meaningful because grassroots governance has always been an area of interest to me.

Over the years, through my work in youth development, education, community development and public policy, I have seen that a policy can be beautifully designed at the national level, but its real test begins when it reaches the community, ward and household.

If we truly want policies to work, we must ask:
How does this policy translate at the Local Government level?
How does the young person in a community experience it?
How does the woman in a rural community access it?
How does the child in an underserved community benefit from it?

For me, Local Government reform is not simply an administrative conversation.
It is a development conversation.

Nigeria is a federation with Federal, State and Local Governments, and each tier has a role to play in bringing governance closer to the people. Effective coordination among the three tiers is therefore essential to translating national priorities into measurable outcomes at the grassroots.

The discussions at the conference reinforced this reality. As reported from the opening day, emphasis was placed on local governments becoming stronger centres of planning, service delivery, accountability and measurable development, with particular attention to education, healthcare, infrastructure, food systems, livelihoods and opportunities for women and young people.

As someone deeply invested in young people, education and community development, I am particularly interested in what this means for the next generation.

Because ultimately, the success of any national agenda should not only be measured by what happens in Abuja. It should be measured by what changes in our communities.

And I believe the journey to a stronger Nigeria must include a stronger, more responsive and more connected grassroots government.

Policy must reach the people.

Development must reach the grassroots.
And young Nigerians must be part of building both. 🇳🇬
