There is no one who has advocated for global surgery on Twitter more than Dr. @DVervoort94, He will be greatly missed. His legacy will live through the countless lives he touched. With deepest condolences to his family, loved ones & #GlobalSurgery community:
We are heartbroken to share that Dr. Dominique Vervoort has passed away after a long battle with melanoma. He was 31.
Co-founder of #InciSioN, architect of early global surgery advocacy, and host of IGSS2018. Dominique helped build the movement many now stand on.
#GivingTuesday is here. When you invest in youth, you invest in the future of global surgery.
Your support helps #InciSioN keep opportunities accessible & youth-led projects alive.

#PASHeF2025 opens with a discussion on "The African Multidisciplinary Surgical Healthcare Workforce: The Past, The Potential, The Promise." From lessons learned to what’s next, today’s conversation is about turning insights into impact for patients across Africa.
History of Surgical Workforce Initiatives in Africa: Prof. @abebesurg traced the deep roots of surgery on the continent and the colonial legacy that segregated care and placed many Africans in “assistant” roles. #PASHeF2025#GlobalSurgery
Country spotlights at #PASHeF2025, hosted by @FMoHealth, delivering momentum: Ethiopia’s SaLTs III, Rwanda’s 4×4 workforce initiative, Nigeria’s NSOANP II, and Sierra Leone’s Surgical Healthcare Planning update. Real progress, clear next steps, policy into practice.
Honored to welcome H.E. Dr. @MekdesDaba, Ethiopia’s Minister of Health, to officially open #PASHeF2025 this afternoon. The event unfolds on a hopeful and practical note, emphasizing a people-first approach and a united commitment to transforming policy into action.
Turns out it is possible to have a better model for publishing🤔 Tell us, have you read an article from @jogs_one or submitted one to this journal? #GlobalSurgery
What happens if You hold the Power of #equity in access to knowledge ? Another article made open access in 24hrs, while reviewers were paid a small fee which they chose to donate to article & support children’s surgery with. How does this make you feel? #GlobalSurgery@jogs_one
Real change in surgical care happens when we work together. #PASHeF2025 brings together leaders from 45 African countries to learn together and synergise their efforts to build smarter, stronger systems for Africa’s surgical workforce.

We often forget how crucial caregivers are in surgery, especially for children... In my field of paediatric orthopaedics (particularly children with neuromuscular conditions), caregivers are among the most humble and inspiring people I’ve met.
Thanks to #Akazi, 30 Malawian healthcare workers have received breast health training for the first time in their careers.
This will enable them to identify women with potential breast cancer at the earliest possible stage, reducing the time taken for diagnosis and ensuring they are placed on the care pathway without delay.
