John Clark, b 1829 England. He moved to Canada w/his mother, where he married Esther Gadd. They had 10 kids together, then moved to Central Lake, MI, abt 1881. Esther passed in 1893, at the age of 60. #DigBellaire

In 1898, John, now 68, married again to 37 y/o Emma Cordelia (Sweet) McPherson, a widow with 3 young children. Her 1st husband was 40 years her senior. #DigBellaire

They finally arrived at 2 am, to the surprise of their sleeping family. Turns out that George had gotten word of their arrival late in the day and assumed they would just stay the night at the station and he would fetch them in the morning. #DigBellaire

In the late 1870s, George W Bedell, Sr, decided it was time to leave NY and follow the lumber industry to Northern MI. His brother, Henry, had found suitable land near Bellaire, MI, so, in 1879, George set out to see what all the fuss was about. #DigBellaire

However, when they were almost there, they got into a spring hold and the wagon went into the axle, so they walked the rest of the way. Besides the children in their group, 16 y/o George, Jr (my great-grandfather) was on crutches due to a bone infection in one leg. #DigBellaire
