The 8in per mile squared is at sea level. Measuring it from land, especially a lighthouse, will drastically skew the results. The only way to test it would be to reproduce the Bedford Level Experiment, which shows a curve.

It always amuses me when conspiracy theorists make more complex, less rational defenses of their beliefs just to accuse others of arbitrary allegiance to 'NASA'.

That's just metal and lenses, bud. Not cameras or digital feeds. You can't fake that.

2. Hence the use of a telescope.
3. That's flagrantly untrue, telescopes can see distances up into the sky - unless you assume some kind of firmament, at which point you're beyond facts.
