There is a double standard, a decontextualization and a clear bias against Argentina, compared to behavior of other players from other countries in this WC, in the same match, in previous WCs.
Examples:
1) Neither Croatia nor France stayed on the pitch to see Argentina pick the trophy; Argentina did in both occasions
2) Argentina didn't give their back to Spain, they faced their crowd
3) Bellingham reacted like Molina but no one created a whole thesis on English behavior and social issues
4) Rodri celebrated to Molina's (and Silva vs Portugal) face but no one said anything about being a bad winner
5) Gavi hit Paredes from behind but you kept looking at Paredes' reaction
6) Looking back: a Dutch player hit a player on the chest and no one wrote an analysis on Dutch violence; Zidane (still my idol) hit Materazzi on the chest with his head after the latter made a comment about his sister, and no one wrote a full analysis on violence in France or sexism in Italy.
All our players, coaches, journalists, fans congratulated Spain for a very good win, and so do I. All other comments are out of bounds
Ex-Argentina player Ángel Di María revealed in an interview that something actually happened behind the scenes before the final, which he said Leo Messi refused to tell him about, prompting the poor performance that ultimately led to Argentina losing to Spain in the World Cup final on Sunday.
Reporter 🎤: “What do you think happened to Argentina in the final?”
Ángel Di María 🗣️: “I really do think something went down behind the scenes before the final, and I’ve asked Leo about it, but he refused to tell me what went down. Because that performance was really weird. I’ve never seen our team play like that in a friendly, let alone in a crucial World Cup final match.
I probably think it might be down to the AFA corruption scandal. Maybe something big came up that mentally disbalanced the team because, for me, I just find what happened weird. I mean, the body language before the final and the performance wise display tell you that something went wrong behind the scenes. I hope Leo reveals it soon.”
This doesn't even sound like a conspiracy anymore. Something clearly happened behind the scenes before the World Cup Final. Too many things don't add up.
• Scaloni arrived at the stadium and got off the team bus in tears.
• Messi "missed" every shot in the warm-up. In over 20 years, I genuinely can't remember ever seeing that. Was he doing it deliberately, or was his mind somewhere else?
• Messi's family didn't even come to the stadium despite living in Miami.
• The entire squad walked out of the dressing room with their heads down, completely shaken up. Enzo and Licha were both seen crying.
• Messi was heard saying: "Let's forget about everything. Let's just play. Forget about everything." Everyone around him looked devastated.
• Scaloni completely abandoned the tactical approach that had worked throughout the tournament, leaving the midfield exposed against a team whose biggest strength is midfield control. Messi and Julián were isolated all game.
• Argentina had 0 shots on target in 90 minutes, yet Lautaro, one of their biggest attacking weapons, never came on.
• Both Cuti Romero and Lisandro Martínez asked to be substituted because of "injuries", yet neither looked to be in obvious pain. These are arguably the two toughest players in the squad. Interestingly, both also ignored Trump during the trophy presentation.
• Spain committed over 20 fouls without receiving a single card. Oyarzabal's challenge on Messi's knee and Cucurella's foul on Simeone were both obvious booking opportunities.
• Cucurella also somehow escaped a red after covering his mouth during a confrontation with Messi.
• Even Spain's celebrations felt strangely subdued. From a neutral perspective, that's understandable given Argentina never really put on a fight.
This isn't meant to take anything away from Spain. They were World Cup favourites for a reason and fully deserved the title based on what happened on the pitch.
But I've watched this Argentina team since 2021, and I've never seen anything remotely like Sunday. This team's identity has always been its passion, intensity and willingness to fight for every ball. None of that was there.
I'm not claiming to know what happened. Maybe it was connected to the Malvinas incident. Maybe there was pressure from someone powerful. Maybe it involved their families. Maybe it was something else entirely.
But I refuse to believe that what we watched was simply Argentina having an off day.
Too many signs pointed to a squad that looked emotionally broken before the match had even kicked off.
I just hope that one day we find out what really happened behind the scenes.
According to reports, the Argentina team was allegedly forced to lose the World Cup final after the Argentine FA informed the squad before the match that they could face a 10-year World Cup ban over the Falklands banner displayed after their semi-final victory against England.
The reports claim that the issue could be resolved only if Argentina lost the final instead of serving a 10 year World Cup ban which they couldn’t cope with.
Sources further claim that this news unsettled the squad, especially Lionel Messi, who reportedly found it strange after all the hard work the team had put in throughout their run to the final. It is alleged that the situation affected the players mentally and contributed to Argentina performing below par and looking like a shadow of their real selves in the final.
You CANNOT tell me that something didn’t happen pre match. Look at the differences between both the speeches
Look at the body language of the players
Seems so weird man
