@JenkinsRaylen I think the substance of his music comes from his ability to pursue a sound sonically (including his voice- kinda like Carti or Thug), rather than his lyrics. I don't mind this approach either, since it still provides an interesting and intentional experience.
the problem is the conflation between substance and depth. not every thing has to be deep political commentary, but it should at least be more clever than Dr Seuss rhymes… Future and Thug are good examples of clever lyrics that aren’t (always) that deep, but still substantive.

Drake is anti-black. Calling another artist speaking to the racism he experienced "slave raps" is anti-Black. Making fun of the Toronto accent then turning around and using it to make a quick buck is anti-Black. And the raps are ass on top of all of that.
@_BNSL artistry and muscianship are one thing but this is like saying the best poet is the one who is most accessible. it’s certainly a piece of the puzzle but rap has always been about saying something. to say otherwise is anti-intellectualism
