Voters have decided. I think this is the worst outcome, and now even more voters have a bigger decision in November. Even though Stevens lost, this is a massive rebuke of Abdul and many in his orbit. So many people lied, and it will only hurt the party in November. He is going into a general not being able to run with the mandate or the type of race he expected. This is within the framework of a party that he is responsible for fracturing. The results of this primary tell me that this seat is gone to the Democratic Party for the first time in decades. No reason to expect the National party to truly save the day. I expect the calculus to be to take the beating in Michigan come November - make up the margins elsewhere, or waste already limited resources.

For me personally though, it’s misogyny, antisemitism, sympathy for foreign terrorist organizations, and the broader embrace of individuals and groups who support or are involved in the “axis of resistance”, that are my red lines. All of which reflect character and love of country and all within. If he were to reverse this course, acknowledge the mistakes, I think some voters might consider giving him a second look. I doubt that occurs, in fact I expect it to intensify. I honestly don’t even expect Rep Stevens to be left alone, so for now U.S. Senate is blank. If the personality and conduct I know of him continues, and he escalates these concerns, then I would support the U.S. Army veteran, former FBI special agent, and former house intelligence committee chair.

With that, I’m going to take a serious look at a future as a registered independent. A political party that neglects national security, flirts with, or is afraid to call out antisemitism in its ranks is not one I can be part of. For me, it will always be country over party.
