You’re Allowed to Change.
One of the most painful things about growing is realizing that some people only love the version of you that never challenged them.
The quiet version.
The people-pleasing version.
The version that never said “no.”
The version that was too afraid to chase bigger dreams.
Then one day, you start changing.
You become more confident.
You begin protecting your peace.
You stop apologizing for having ambition.
You stop asking everyone for permission to live your own life.
And suddenly, people say:
“You’ve changed.”
For years, I thought that was an insult.
Now I hear it differently.
I hope I’ve changed.
Because the person I was years ago lived with too much fear.
Fear of failing.
Fear of disappointing people.
Fear of being misunderstood.
Fear of stepping out.
If I’m still that same person today, then I haven’t grown.
Think about Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
She endured imprisonment, exile, political setbacks, and years of criticism before eventually becoming Africa’s first elected female president.
Imagine if she had allowed fear, rejection, or public opinion to convince her that she should remain the person she used to be.
History would be different.
Maybe your next chapter requires becoming someone your current circle won’t immediately understand.
And that’s okay.
Not everyone is meant to understand your growth while it’s happening.
Some people only recognize transformation after it has produced results.
So don’t feel guilty for changing.
Feel grateful that life didn’t leave you where it found you.
The version of you that survived yesterday deserves the chance to become someone stronger tomorrow.
You’re not losing yourself.
You’re finally meeting the person you’ve been capable of becoming all along.
I am rooting for you.
