The carrier is operating alongside guided-missile destroyers tasked with protecting the strike group as Iran ramps up attacks on U.S. warships.

Yingst also went aboard the USS Shoup for a firsthand look at the sailors and weapons protecting the carrier, including its stockpile of Tomahawk missiles.
