Booker T. & The M.G.'s - Green Onions (1962)
Another song that instantly makes me think of the cult-classic film Quadrophenia. An iconic 12-bar blues instrumental, it had originally been titled 'Funky Onions' but was deemed too suggestive. #3 on the US Hot 100 & #1 Soul Chart.
Men getting mad and crashing out over Peter taking MJ home even after she rejected him and told him “I don’t love you” is exactly why they’ll never be Peter Parker. Unlike u losers he actually loves his girl UNCONDITIONALLY
The stupidest thing I see about fitness is that an exercise is “pointless”. Not only is this ableist nonsense (not all of us are going for shredded abs Dave) but ALL exercise is good exercise. Dancing in the mirror? Exercise. Moving a sofa? Exercise. Yoga? Exercise. Tiny trampoline? Exercise. Walking to the shops? Exercise. Stop convincing people that if they aren’t doing 15 reps at the gym on the Zumzoomfadmachine 500 there’s no point.
One of the most devastating effects of engaging in culture wars is that it renders you incapable of seeing the good in those you see as opponents. That type of mentality will eventually eat you up from the inside out.
People shutting down discussions of eating disorders with accusations of body shaming is genuinely so insidious. Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness, and mainstream media outlets are using progressive language in an attempt to normalise it.
people view EDs as moral failures. binge eating is conflated with a lack of self-control which is the “great human flaw” of our capitalist society. restrictive ones that entail emaciation are met with a lack of empathy for the victim, who is solely viewed as a hazard to others
i’m fully convinced now that the average person thinks restrictive EDs are always born out of vanity and fatphobia so they automatically apply judgement based on their own projections
Half the reason so many adults are nostalgic for college is that it was the only time they lived in a highly social, walkable community. You saw your friends every day, rarely needed a car, and were surrounded by an environment designed to make connection easy.
“Don’t comment on people’s bodies” is bullshit when that person is a celebrity killing themselves in a way that’s a known social contagion. Normalizing anorexia & being bone skinny is deadly
@mlefeaeaeamen Yeah I agree. It's ridiculous and unnecessary to pit them against one another and I don't understand why it has to be a competition. It's all subjective anyways.
While everyone is talking about Karen Carpenter Cass Elliot (mamma cass) also died from disordered eating and extreme dieting but because she was fat people instead assume that’s what killed her. Anorexia & fat phobia are far deadlier than fatness

At the gym a guy watched me finish a set of deadlifts, wiped his forehead, and said, “Careful. You don’t want to get too bulky. Most guys prefer soft girls.” I racked the bar, turned to face him, and answered, “Interesting. I lift so I like how I look in the mirror. Your preference isn’t on my workout plan.” He found a different rack and never made eye contact again.
I was too young to remember Karen's passing but grew up with the Carpenters music and loved her voice in college. I was in my later twenties when Schiavo passed. Both were heartbreaking.
