@RutgersAltRoute#teachered#growthmindset most of my feedback is performance based, so I will say “ that was a good try I like how you did (xyz) , let’s try again but this time( insert feedback)” . I find it helps my students not get discouraged.
@RutgersAltRoute#teachered#growthmindset my assessments are based on where each student is so they vary in difficulty. I want to give my students the best possible chance of succeeding. I push them to want more but not so much that they shut down.
@RutgersAltRoute#teachered#growthmindset O am very intentional in the way I speak to my students. I make sure that my words help them, not leave them stuck. I encourage them to try and to keep trying.
@RutgersAltRoute#teachered#growthmindset A1: Challenges happen when a student has a fear of being wrong or feels like they can’t go past where they are. However these create opportunities for students to “do it scared” and see what their potential really is.
@RutgersAltRoute A5: I believe making sure that all teachers read and understand the students IEP’s are a start. Recognizing what each student needs is crucial. Administrative support is key as well.
@RutgersAltRoute A4 I ask a lot of very specific questions to get the students to just feel comfortable and safe to talk to me. I also ask them about their performances and ask them what they think they did well and what maybe needs more work. Most of the time they will be honest and then correct
@RutgersAltRoute A3: I give each of my students the ability to express themselves musically, no matter what level they are at. I give them feedback specific to them and their abilities and give them the opportunity to correct. I do the same with all of my students so everyone feels included.
@RutgersAltRoute A2: I give my students breaks, such as stepping out for a moment or going to my relax corner in my classroom. I also break up my lessons into smaller chunks, with more hands on activities to reinforce what is being taught.
@RutgersAltRoute A1: Because music class is a space where everyone can participate and express themselves, I do plenty of singalongs and well as using percussive instruments to make sure everyone is included. I also allow the students to express themselves and explore their creativity freely.
@RutgersAltRoute I try to listen without interrupting and let them get their feelings out. I also let them know that I am here to make sure that everyone is safe and protected.
@RutgersAltRoute I have seen bullying happing within the school I teach at. It is very upsetting to watch the emotional damage that it does to a student
@RutgersAltRoute I help my students learn about safe conflict resolution. How to resolve an issue without it resorting to violence. I also enforce positive self talk in my classroom as well.
