🚨I wrote about immunocompromised people—what they’ve been through, their frustrations, and their hopes.
This is a plea to think about those who don’t get to be done with the pandemic, and to prioritize them as a matter of moral and medical urgency. 1/

@monica_campbell@TheWorld You’ve been such an inspiration, and thanks for your years of service to public radio listeners! I hope to hear more Monica Campbell stories on the airwaves, and I’m waiting for the day we can meet again to enjoy dosas together!
Women journalists are among the most at-risk populations in #Afghanistan. Action is urgent: we support all measures to ensure the safety of media workers attempting to evacuate and call on all governments worldwide to open their borders.

🚨In a new piece, I lay out and explore 3 principles that now define the pandemic.
1) The vaccines are still beating the variants.
2) The variants are pummelling unvaccinated people.
3) The longer 2 continues, the less likely 1 will hold.

@fizapirani This was me EVERYDAY before March 14th. Now when the clock strikes 5, I breathe a huge sigh of relief, since I’ve got a whopping 2 hours to squeeze in my daily dose of sun. This year’s time change has literally changed my life!
@lapublichealth Yes I really need to talk to you. How can I stay mentally sane when you’re opening indoor dining, movie theaters, gyms, museums, aquariums, etc when Covid-19 is still a major threat? The fact people want to rush to these places during a global pandemic is making me crazy.
Also, the best part is how health officials think only people from the same household are eating together. I see groups of people my age with no children eating together all the time. Does the restaurant just assume it’s one big household? If so, they’d be arguing the whole time.
Wait, so lemme get this straight? Covid’s over? I’m very interested in interviewing people who think indoor dining & movie theaters are safe, especially the unvaccinated.

I guess LA wants to celebrate its one-year pandemic anniversary with a bang, literally. What do people who actually work for @lapublichealth think about these re-openings when there’s a possibility of a variant and a very small % of residents vaccinated?
