eNCA journalists Pule Letshwiti-Jones and Yusuf Abramjee have been recognised as joint winners of the National Press Club–UNISA Journalist of the Year (TV Features) award.
A trailblasing mathematician from a rural Eastern Cape village just got a huge shout-out from the University of Johannesburg. On May 29, 2026, Prof Loyiso Nongxa received an honorary doctorate during the Faculty of Science graduation. Born in 1953, he became South Africa’s first Black Rhodes Scholar in 1977, earned his PhD in maths from Oxford in 1982, and went on to lead big changes in higher education.
He didn’t just grab the spotlight for himself he turned to the grads and their families, tipping caps in thanks and dropping real talk only a tiny slice of South Africans earn post-school quals, so these achievers are already in rare air. Nongxa built national research powerhouses in maths and stats, served as Wits Vice-Chancellor, and even represented Africa as Vice-President of the International Mathematical Union. His message? Keep pushing, help others, stay curious, and use your skills to fix what’s broken.

@veronica_mente I hope she rats on these thieves. Vincent Smith is sitting in jail for getting a Bosasa loan for her daughter's studies, yet Nomvula and Gwede are still roaming free when they committed far serious crimes.
Pep - what can I say? Where do I start? ✍️🩵
It’s difficult to truly describe the impact Pep has had - not only on Manchester City as a football club, but on everything around it as well. The trophies and achievements speak for themselves. But what made him special was always much bigger than winning.
For me personally, he was never just a manager. He was a mentor, a leader and also a friend.
From the very first day we worked together, he challenged me to see football differently. Every detail mattered. Every meter on the pitch had a purpose. There were moments when his intensity pushed all of us to our limits mentally and physically - but looking back, that obsession with perfection is exactly what made his teams so extraordinary.
What many people don’t see from the outside is the human side of Pep. Beyond football, he is incredibly humble, thoughtful and someone who genuinely cares about the people around him.
Over the years, I was lucky enough to experience that side of him very closely. He made me a better player, but also a better person.
When I look back on my career one day, my time working with Pep will always be one of the defining chapters of my journey.
ManCity without Pep will never be the same again. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me, my family, the football club, the community and Manchester as a whole. 🩵
Looking forward to seeing you at the game on Sunday! @PepTeam 🙏
🏆 In 2017, I was on assignment at the Emirates with a visit to @Arsenal for a week. My friend and renowned journalist, Xolani Gwala, had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and was undergoing treatment already. Having no idea of what would ever bring a flicker of a smile given his condition, I walked into that Arsenal shop and all of a sudden I knew that this might be the mental/psychological magic he deserves. Bought him a number of items and when I went to see him immediately after landing back home, he immediately told me that he has to fit the items on immediately especially because he can't even remember when last they won the league. 9yrs later #Arsenal are LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!
I know you are proud and celebrating tonight mhlonishwa!!
CONGRATULATIONS MPHEPHETHWA!!! FINALLY!!🥇
Continue to rest easy CHAMP!!!

I see a lot of ANC members boasting about how the opposition will not have the numbers to impeach President Cyril Ramaphosa.
For an organization that used to thrive on optics, media and publicity, the ANC has lost its grasp on the role of perceptions in politics.
The ANC has not learnt its lessons from Nkandla and what the arrogance of numbers in the face of accountability can do. Another harsh lesson is about to be learnt on this Phala Phala saga.
🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
Ramaphosa’s impeachment
400-159 =241
241/400*100 =60,25 %
Ramaphosa would still survive the impeachment if ANC MP vote as a block even if the DA decides to vote with opposition parties !
But here is a twist!
Ramaphosa will not survive a motion of no confidence as the requirement is 50% + 1 then he is gone!
People are looking at the impeachment! But I think the real test for Ramaphosa will be the motion of no confidence!
Doctor Khumalo’s name to become real with TUT’s prestigious doctorate.
The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) is set to honour South African football icon Theophilus Khumalo with an honorary doctorate. This is in recognition of his outstanding contribution to sport and national development.
Khumalo, affectionately known as “Doctor”, will receive a Doctor of Philosophy in Science (Kinesiology and Coaching Science) honoris causa from the Faculty of Sciences on 30 April 2026. He is among three distinguished South Africans being recognised, alongside mining entrepreneur Daphne Mashile-Nkosi and business leader Paul Mpho Makwana.
Born in Soweto on 26 June 1967, Khumalo’s football journey seemed destined from the start. He is the son of Eliakim “Pro” Khumalo, a revered Kaizer Chiefs legend, and quickly carved his own path to greatness.
Doctor Khumalo first made waves at Daliwonga High School in Dube, where his exceptional skill earned him the nicknames “Vula-Vala” and later “16V”. His creativity, flair and football intelligence would go on to define a career that made him one of the finest midfielders in Bafana Bafana history.
TUT described the honorary doctorate as one of the highest academic honours, awarded to individuals whose work has had a lasting impact beyond their field. The institution said the honourees represent its vision of a people-centred university focused on innovation and national progress.
For Doctor Khumalo, the recognition cements a legacy that extends far beyond the pitch — from inspiring young footballers to shaping South African sport. A true master of the midfield, and now officially a Doctor in the real sense.
