Podcasting does not make money.
I have tried multiple ways to make money via podcasts. Here are the ones that have not really worked (skill issue?).
1. Ads / sponsors - Platforms don’t really pay anything. Finding a sponsor for every video is hard. Harder than even finding a guest.
2. Paid guests - I have tried charging guests as well as to appear on a podcast. Most folks agree that it ads value but paying for it seems like a policy or ethical violation and they tend to stay away from it.
3. Hosting for others - Most brands want to run a podcast because content marketing works. It is a low cost exercise which helps in the long run. Pretty much similar to blogging / newsletters. But with podcasting, there is always someone in the team (a founder or a marketing head) who wants to build a personal brand as well. They don’t need someone from outside because frankly speaking - hosting a podcast does not require much talent.
Bottom line - if you are planning to get into podcasting to become rich and famous, it isn’t going to workout for 99% of you.
If you are keen to solve for problems that has the greatest impact on humanity, it is opportunities in health and climate. And now is the time to start solving.
1) Over 2 billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water- WHO.
2) At least half the world’s population does not have full access to essential health services- World Bank
3) Roughly 828 million people go to bed hungry every night- UN World Food Programme
4) Approx 244 million children globally are out of school- UNESCO
5) Nearly 9 million deaths annually are linked to pollution, particularly air pollution – Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health.
6) Over 600 million people, or 1 in 10, fall ill each year after eating contaminated food – WHO.
7) One-third of all food produced globally, approximately 1.3 billion tons, is wasted each year, while millions go hungry – FAO.
8) Climate change could push 100 million people into extreme poverty by 2030 – World Bank.
9) Around 931 million tons of CO2 emissions annually come from food waste, contributing significantly to global warming – UNEP.
10) 2.4 billion people globally live without proper sanitation- WHO
The world’s biggest problems are humanity’s greatest opportunities. This is the time to build and solve something meaningful and start where the pain is greatest and the leverage is highest.

The case of Vijay Mallya, who left India after taking significant loans, is more complex than it appears. While he undeniably made mistakes, we cannot fully understand the conditions or pressures under which he fled the country. Could there have been political motives or threats? Could jealousy or rivalry in the business world have played a role? These are questions that remain unanswered.
We must also recognize the immense contributions Mallya made before his fall. The industries he built, the employment opportunities he created, and the wealth he generated cannot be overlooked. Many products and businesses he established became iconic, and some are still synonymous with his name. While his mistakes should not be excused, it’s equally important not to be thankless for the positive legacy he left behind. Respect should be given where it is due, even as we hold him accountable for his wrongdoings.
Furthermore, raising concerns about the judiciary and police in India is not unwarranted. The inefficiencies and corruption in the system, from law enforcement to the judiciary, are glaring. Whether it's Karnataka or any other state, the struggles of the common man remain the same, regardless of which political party is in power—be it BJP or Congress. Businesspeople, especially, face significant challenges if they do not align with certain political interests or become targets of rivalry.
Pointing fingers or oversimplifying situations without understanding the broader context doesn’t help. The system as a whole needs significant improvement to ensure fair and transparent governance. This isn’t about favoring one individual but about understanding the broader challenges entrepreneurs face while building and sustaining businesses in India. Mistakes are inevitable, but singling out one person while ignoring systemic issues serves no real purpose.
Let me try again.
