reese clark pauses. they realize what's happening and they're too far away. they can't make up the distance. they can't take the hit. too late.
a memory of son's first official day with the spies. reese smiles and pulls them in for a huge team hug.
Today, we mourn a terrible loss, unheard of in the cultural event of Blaseball. Today, we lost our son, @SonScotch, to a terrible event of incineration. Taken far too soon. All Houston Spies uniforms will be changed to black for the forseeable future in mourning. RIV, my Son.
RIV Son Scotch, incinerated by a rogue umpire on Day 36 of Season 14. I wrote this for them in my very first season of #blaseball because the cadence of their name charmed me, un-lored, else I'd have said "our."
I wrote it as pastiche, not knowing it would ultimately be elegy.
We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Spies hitter and Houston's favorite son, Son Scotch. A Spy since S1, Scotch grew into a beloved member of the ILB family and made Blaseball Fans everywhere, like our S14 sponsor @MultitudeShows,
proud. RIV 🩸⚾️
ooc/// wow phew. okay. this will sound weird but i had a feeling about half an hour ago... i was thinking about what would happen if son got incinerated. i was going to draft up a fic but uh. by the time i got to my computer, well.

ooc/// i'll probably take some time away from blaseball for a bit. i don't think i'll rp another character though. but i'd love to continue supporting the spies.
if you want to follow my personal twitter, you can at @paradox_jess !
thanks again, everyone. 💙
ooc/// a huge thank you to everyone who has made fanart or wrote fix about son. a huge huge huge thank you to my fellow spies rp'ers who interacted with me. i love and appreciate you all so much.

a single remaining thought. more of a retrospective, really.
did i make them proud?
the ringing in their ears finally fade and in its place the universe hums its approval.
teddy claps them on the back, breaking the spell.
"c'mon kid. let's get you some pancakes."

memories.
son holds out a haphazard-looking scrapbook. it's filled with innumerable pictures and messages - signed from everyone in the league. son gets lost for a few moments, just remembering.
the air feels different here. the people feel a little different too.
