This is my anti-postmodernism / anti-woke / politics / culture war account, as I want to minimize these topics in my daily life.

Recently, I had an idea to help organize my research/writing process. A timeline of events pertinent to these issues. I began it recently, but it will now migrate to a public-link Google Doc that I will edit in real-time:

Zohran Mamdani says he’ll take “aggressive legal action” to seize buildings from negligent private landlords and transfer them to nonprofits and tenant associations.
New York tried this 50 years ago — it didn’t work.
In the 70s and 80s, NYC seized thousands of abandoned properties, spent ~$10.6b managing them, and gave many of them to nonprofits. Living conditions deteriorated (77% of city-managed units had rats), and city-appointed landlords fell behind on payments.
Old buildings deteriorate and need money to be fixed; changing a building’s owner doesn’t change its economics. The real issue here is rent regulation, which sharply limits legal rent increases; NYC’s progressive left either doesn’t know or hasn’t acknowledged history, and as @JKetcham91 argues, Mamdani is exploiting their ignorance to build his political base.

White people do this thing where they show very little anger right up to the breaking point then they break and begin to absolutely freak the fuck out. WW2, Crusades, etc. Leading up to a fist fight, White men get quieter. Opposite of other races who get louder as they get closer to violence. You’re beginning to see White people freak out you just don’t know it yet.
When Daniel Craig was finishing his run as James Bond in 2021, Sir Keir Starmer was asked who was his favourite 007. 'I don't have a favourite Bond…' he replied 'but I do think it's time for a female Bond'.
This from a man who, at the time, struggled to define what a woman even was and whose party has never elected a female leader.
But what the future prime minister's response typified was a certain bien pensant belittling of Bond that goes back decades.
Ian Fleming once described his creation as a hero for 'warm-blooded heterosexuals'. To many on the left that was Bond's original sin, for which the franchise has never been forgiven.

The data out of Oregon really are astonishing.
A phenomenon once observed in about 1 in 20,000 adult men and 1 in 50,000 adult women (DSM-5) is now being diagnosed and medically treated in at least 1 in 250 17-year-old girls in Oregon.
This unqualified bore says his secondhand opinions are “not up for debate.” Yes they are. At a university all opinions are up for debate. If you cannot defend your opinions rationally, either they are indefensible or you are too stupid to defend them. In either case you have no right to force them on students who have expressed their wish to attend a lecture by doing so.

@anjewla90 Their ideology holds that everyone who isn't on their program has an ignorant concept of the world and that anyone who is in the way of their ambitions is in the way of God and needs to be destroyed.
This is where we are now. AI has made it so that anything can be denied. A conspiracy theorist can dismiss any photo or video evidence as inauthentic. There is essentially nothing that can even conceivably derail their narratives if they don't want it to.
They will still demand evidence every day of the week, of course, but nothing will ever satisfy that demand.
There's no going back. We not only have to deal with nefarious people who actively use AI to mislead us, but we have to deal with nefarious people who use the mere existence of the technology to never have to tap out when proven wrong.
When you read Fanon, Sartre, Lenin, etc, the violence of leftist praxis is not hidden. For ex., take Sartre: "For in the first days of the revolt you must kill: to shoot down a European is to kill two birds with one stone, to destroy an oppressor and the man he oppresses at the same time: there remain a dead man, and a free man; the survivor, for the first time, feels a national soil under his foot."
For Fanon, decolonization is very clearly a violent phenomenon.
@Howlingmutant0 I hate wokeness and I'm not a fan of Bowen but I just hear almost the opposite of what you heard, listening to him here. He sounds humble and grateful.
The left loves to mock right-wing religious doomsday preachers for confidently claiming to know the date of the Rapture, only to be proven wrong again and again, and those who take action based on these predictions.
I agree, it's funny.
But the secular left has built its own doomsday religion. Extinction Rebellion, climate catastrophism, and the "Climate Clock" are no less absurd. They all warn of a looming End Times, a short window for some kind of salvation, and even engage in public rituals of repentance while calling out heretics to be shamed and silenced.
Some of these True Believers are even behaviorally sterilizing themselves because they believe the future is so doomed that their children will only suffer.
This isn't some tiny isolated congregation following a quacky renegade preacher. This is a mainstream political movement.

I just love the idea that after presumably coming out to her community, doing IVF and raising two children with her non-Muslim, tattooed, lesbian life-partner, the woman in question remains committed to full Islamic modesty dress
