Today, ESL students were not only disrespected, but by a school board member. This behavior is ridiculous and xenophobic. Students on Strike stands with ALL ESL Students in Virginia Beach.
Hello 2022-2023 school year! Students are pumped up and ready to have our voices heard this school year! Will the adults in charge of our education listen?
With attacks on ESL students and families, we have seen what School Board Member Victoria Manning stands for. Her allies are already recruiting candidates for school board this year. Can you pitch in $5, $10, $25?

Woah! We have a TON of new people on here! Welcome Everyone! Students on Strike helps encourages other students to speak at school board meetings and talk about issues that are important to students. Student advocacy and our voice is super important, and we highlight that here!
@beachdaysalways This account is run by Teenagers to help teenagers get active in their local school boards. If you call that social justice warriors or division that is fine by us. What’s division is saying “teaching south americans isn’t sustainable” even if you didn’t mean it in that context.

@beachdaysalways For a school board member to say that “Teaching South Americans is not sustainable” is indeed xenophobia. There is no make believe the facebook post is there to prove it. ESL kids were disrespected.
This post from our own school board member is unconscionable and should immediately be addressed. It’s a direct slap in the face to our professed commitment to human decency, diversity, inclusion and belonging. @vbschools
NOT GOOD: HB787 to ban "divisive concepts" in elementary & middle schools passed its subcommittee 4-2 this morning.
This bill would punish teachers & educators for discussing anything that the government deems "divisive." It's classroom censorship, plain and simple.
On Saturday night, an unauthorized tweet came from a campaign account. I regret that this happened and it shouldn’t have. I have addressed it with my team. We must continue to work to bring Virginians together. There is so much more that unites us than divides us.
It’s important that we acknowledge the thousands of students with different religions and their rights to also have a calendar that honors their holidays, not just the christian ones https://t.co/Rv7e4NBeZp
