"You know who they were? McCartney and Lennon? They were Adam and Eve. And the rest of us bands were begat from them. Thatโs the way I look at it.
"I think essentially the Beatles determined almost every single rock style that would follow. And I donโt know how that happened. Nobody knows how that happened, I donโt think McCartney can articulate it. Itโs otherworldly โ itโs from another universe. It canโt be duplicated, they couldnโt duplicate it.
"You know, Styx had, starting with Equinox, that was double-platinum, then Crystal Ball was almost platinum. And then we had four triple-platinums in a row, and then another double platinum. Now thatโs a pretty good string.
"But let me put it in perspective: Styx Greatest Hits is a great record, I think. Has 16 wonderful songs on it. So that makes what, one, one-and-a-half Beatle albums? [laughs]
"I mean, what the Beatles did in seven years โ the fact that all four of those guys got together at that time and brought those miraculous talents in one spot to make all those records in seven years โ it doesnโt make sense. It canโt make any sense to musicians like myself. Itโs just one of the mysteries of the universe. And I guarantee any musician who denies this is a liar. How they did that, none of us will ever know."

My favorite thing ever is when the NYT does a profile on a lib that did something bad and needs an image boost. They always have two pictures: the first has the subject in their house wearing a sweater and looking out a closed window. This creates the impression that they are hiding from a mob and just want to be left alone, and the NYT will run this pic regardless of whether the subject started the fight in the first place. The second picture has the subject walking in a park or a garden looking pensive, as if to suggest that they will bravely push through their fear and ultimately triumph over the bad guys.
