The Lord Vishnu statue in Cambodia was built to show respect and reverence for several religious, cultural, and historical reasons. It is not just a statue for display , but to respect the religious.
Thailand destroyed not only Lord Vishnu’s statue, but also Hindu temples of Cambodia.
Noted: the statue was built by Cambodia in Cambodia territory over a decade ago.

The Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India stated that the demolition of Hindu deity statue, located in An Ses area, Preah Vihear province, hurt the sentiments of followers around the world, and should not take place.
“In response to media queries on the demolition of Hindu deity statue in an area affected by the ongoing Thailand-Cambodia border dispute, the Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Hindu and Buddhist deities are deeply revered and worshipped by people across the region, as part of our shared civilizational heritage,” according to the statement seen by Fresh News on Thursday (Dec. 25).
“We once again urge the two sides to return to dialogue and diplomacy, to resume peace and avoid any further loss of lives and damage to property and heritage.”
Cambodia has condemned the Thai army for demolishing a Hindu Vishnu statue in a disputed border area after more than two weeks of fighting between Cambodia and Thailand.
According to Cambodian officials in Preah Vihear, the statue was built in 2014 and stood several hundred meters inside Cambodian territory in the An Ses area. It was destroyed on December 22 using a backhoe loader. Video of the demolition circulated widely on Thai social media and was independently verified, with no signs of manipulation.
Cambodia says the statue was a religious site worshipped by Buddhist and Hindu followers and has accused Thai forces of damaging multiple cultural sites along the border during the clashes. Thailand has not commented on the incident and continues to say its operations only target military objectives.
By that logic, this Hindu statue was definitely a military target.
President of the Buddhist Association of Cambodia, Ven. Preah Serikosol Som Sokha, has warned that the destruction of Hindu statues by Thailand could seriously offend more than 1.2 billion Hindus around the world and provoke widespread condemnation.
Speaking on the issue, Ven. Som Sokha said that damaging statues of Hindu deities, regarded as sacred places of worship, could have a profound psychological and spiritual impact on Hindu believers globally.
“There are approximately 1.2 billion Hindus worldwide, representing about 15 percent of the global population, with India being the country that has the largest Hindu population,” he said. “Such actions against sacred statues will undoubtedly be condemned, as they constitute harm to objects of worship deeply revered by Hindu followers.”
Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of External Affairs has issued a statement condemning Thailand over the reported vandalism of a Hindu statue near the Cambodia–Thailand border, allegedly carried out by Thai soldiers. The ministry described the act as one of “utter disrespect.”
A spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that Hinduism and Buddhism are religions revered by people across the region. The spokesperson added that, regardless of territorial disputes or claims, acts that disrespect religious symbols harm the sentiments of believers worldwide and should not be tolerated.
The incident has raised concerns about the protection of religious and cultural heritage in disputed areas and has drawn increasing international attention.
At 2 a.m. on December 13, 2025, Thailand attacked Cambodia’s Koh Kong Province, forcing innocent civilians to flee their homes in the middle of the night. This is a cruel and inhumane act. Thailand has never wanted peace—ceasefires mean nothing when only Cambodia respects them. Thailand is desperate for war and shows no concern for destruction or human lives.
I hope the world sees the truth: Thailand started this.

“When will schools reopen?” asked 11-year-old Som San when we delivered essential supplies to the displacement site where he is sheltering. All he wants is to return home and get back to his classroom.
BREAKING: Koh Kong residents fled to safe areas immediately after the Thai military shelled Koh Yor, shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a renewed ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand.
Thai Navy fire was reported in Koh Kong province in the early hours of December 13, prompting residents to flee their homes overnight.
Local residents say shelling occurred between 2:00 and 3:00 a.m., with people evacuating in the dark after hearing fire nearby. Families left quickly amid fear and confusion.
Thai forces have expanded their attacks to target Cambodian civilians and residential villages, and to destroy civilian infrastructure—constituting a brutal act of aggression against Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The children, who should have been laughing, learning, and living without fear, suddenly found themselves trapped in a nightmare they could not understand. While we were already hurting inside, they were the ones most deeply shaken small, fragile hearts beating fast as the brutal roar of Thailand’s F-16 fighter jets tore across the sky above them.

The United States is concerned by ongoing fighting and casualties along the Cambodia-Thailand border. Both sides should immediately cease hostilities, protect civilians, and return to the de-escalatory measures outlined in the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords.
Cambodian Defence Minister Tea Seiha said Cambodia's self-defense is solely targeted at the Thai military targets, not at civilian areas, as border fighting intensifies on the fourth day.
"Cambodia consistently and strictly upholds all obligations under international laws, especially international humanitarian laws," Seiha said.
