For several seconds, Guwon remained completely still, the phone still pressed against his ear as though he might somehow hear her again. Nothing. Only silence. His expression slowly changed as the stranger’s final words replayed in his mind.

Another faint trace. Guwon’s eyes snapped open. He changed direction immediately. He didn’t know where the trail would lead him. He didn’t know what waited at the end of it.
But he would find her. He would tear through every street,

The name left him quietly. With the phone still pressed to his ear, he turned toward the door. Whatever had happened, he was going to find her.

The night had been uneventful enough and for once, the humans souls he had come to collect had provided little more than the usual inconvenience.
One by one, their contracts had been fulfilled, their time had come to an end and Guwon had done what he had always done.

It was someone else. He ended it without another word, then called her again. Straight to ringing. He knew something was wrong, he just didn’t know what.
And that was perhaps the first time in a very long time that he found himself genuinely afraid. His eyes darkened.
