@kellyhiser @fmlehman ...does the (non-trivial) amount of time I spent studying non-western musics take away from "other things" that were more directly my field?
@kellyhiser @fmlehman (a) then explicitly stream the program, rather than making it an opt-in for everyone (including those for whom this is really mandatory)
@kellyhiser @fmlehman I understood that that's what you were talking about. I don't understand how defending the req is analogous to defending ws or whm
@fmlehman @kellyhiser there is huge pressure, in both uk and us institutions to reduce mt, because students/"customers" don't like it, which is problematic
@fmlehman @kellyhiser beyond which, I don't necessarily believe it's *absolutely* fair in today's academic environment to paint wmt as de fact oppressive majority
@fmlehman @kellyhiser but again, what was said was not a critique of its position, but a statement that a defence of its value was a defence of white supremacy
@fmlehman @kellyhiser no question that western mt is hegemonic. no question that there is a multiplicity of other traditions that need to be better taught
@kellyhiser Well, didn't mean to be condescending. Was trying to engage politely, if critically. Sorry to have bummed you out if criticism is unwelcome
