Near Shapes is our new extended meditation session by @_antenes. Near Shapes is based on binaural recordings the artist produced at the Bell Labs anechoic chamber and it explores the capacity of microscopic sounds made by close objects to captivate and soothe the listener.
In our new conversation with @_antenes, we talk about her experience with mindfulness, what listening means to her as a musician, the ideas and sonic experiences that led to the Near Shapes project, her synth building practice, her ideas about techno, and many other things.
Our new extended session Near Shapes stems from @_antenes 's interest in the potential of collected objects to ground us in the present moment, to captivate and soothe the listener.
This month we're thrilled to present an exclusive collaboration with Brooklyn-based and Bunker New York affiliate @_antenes. For this project, Antenes composed Near Shapes, a one-hour Extended Session designed for deep listening meditation.
For our new conversation, Ears to the World, we sat down with KMRU @joseph_kamaru to discuss the genesis of his interest in environmental sound, the meaning of listening in his work, the political dimension of listening, the role of noise and silence in our lives, and more.
Our new extended session Seen Unseen by KMRU @joseph_kamaru is a sixty-minute journey that explores the relationship between our physical and mental spaces, between the auditory signature of the environments we live in, and the way these spaces make us feel.
Made out of carefully-layered field recordings bathed in slow-evolving melodic motifs, KMRU's Seen Unseen is a meditation on the endless beauty and complexity of the sounds that surround us, and the objects, beings, emotions, and destinies that make up our world. @joseph_kamaru
Just a reminder that a sneaky Rrose album (in the shape of a listening course) was released a few months ago via the Soundworks app. I hope it can provide a therapeutic escape from the precarious state of the physical worldβ¦

In order to make the short-form sound compositions created for special initiatives like our partnerships with MUTEK and the SSI more easily accessible, we created a new category in the Explore Feed: Special Sounds. Enjoy more ease in finding the sounds you love in Soundworks π
We sat down with Paul Oomen, the creator of @4DSOUND, and Daniela Gentile and Edo van Breemen who composed the pieces we released in Soundworks. We discuss the fundamental importance of listening, the potential of spatial sound as a catalyzer of sonic awareness, and more.
The Soundworks app's history is deeply rooted in the clubbing scene: a team united by a fierce belief that βthe quality of our attention underpins our very notion of reality and influences every aspect of how we think, feel and communicate.β
