I feel utmost grief in announcing the sad demise of my ex co-News anchor at Doordarshan, Sarala Maheshwari 🙏

She was the embodiment of grace and courtesy.
Beautiful not just in appearance but even more so at heart, she had a remarkable command over language and was a reservoir of knowledge. Her presence on the Doordarshan screen had a unique aura. She respected everyone and uplifted every space she was part of.

I pray that God grants her soul eternal peace and gives strength to the Maheshwari family.

Whenever you speak against reservation, Atrocities Act, or UGC regulations, neo-Ambedkarwadis taunt you by calling you privileged. Their favourite phrase: “Equality feels like oppression to the privileged.”

So setting the record straight once and for all. My grandfather was a small farmer in a remote village. My father left the village and joined the army as a jawan, and I became a doctor from there on my own, without any reservation, though I was eligible as OBC.

Of course, I ticked the OBC column while giving pre-medical tests, but I was a teenager, mentally immature at that time. If I had the understanding I have now, I would have ticked the open category.

These are the pictures of my childhood with my siblings. I’m sure this doesn’t look “privileged.” Lastly, this post is only to settle the privileged taunts, not to claim that I’ve achieved something big. I haven’t. Countless people with far fewer resources have achieved far better. So I’m a nobody, but certainly not privileged.

Though I’m an OBC and my kids won’t suffer from these regulations as much, I still oppose them because what’s wrong is wrong. I’ve studied in a medical college. I’ve seen IITs and other colleges as well. People study, make friends, and have a good time. Nobody is into casteism there. It’s the liberal humanities sections who have spoiled the college environment for their personal activism. They want such regulations to fix what they hate.

This can’t be acceptable to anyone unless they are a casteist, hateful bigot.
