BATUK: BRITAIN'S COLONIAL GRIP IN KENYA
BATUK: The White Man’s Burden in Kenya is not just a documentary about a British military base where soldiers roll around in the dirt for six months before returning home to the UK. It is a documentary about abuse of power, occupation of indigenous land and the unfinished business of colonialism.
For decades, ordinary Kenyans living around BATUK have raised allegations of abuse, sexual violence, ecological destruction and impunity, while one of the world’s most powerful former colonial powers continues to operate freely on Kenyan soil, handing out small amounts of compensation whenever evidence of alleged crimes reaches the media.
At the centre of the documentary is the story of Agnes Wanjiru, a 21-year-old Kenyan woman who was tortured, killed and dumped in a septic tank, while British soldiers mocked and ridiculed her death on social media. One soldier posed in front of the septic tank and posted, “If you know, you know.” Others joked about the five-month-old daughter she left behind, posting imagery of a baby beside a gravesite.
But the story goes beyond Agnes and her tragic killing and the shocking behaviour of British troops thereafter. The documentary asks deeper questions:
How did Britain maintain a military presence in Kenya, the very same year the country supposedly gained independence?
Why are foreign troops still training on stolen land while local communities continue to suffer?
And above all, why does the Kenyan government allow all of this?
Laikipia County, currently in the spotlight because of plans for an Ebola quarantine facility for US citizens, is the very same county where the BATUK military base is headquartered. This documentary helps connect the dots about why Kenya’s political elite remain so willing to cede sovereignty to foreign powers like Britain, and why they may be willing to do the same again with the United States.

MARWAN BARGHOUTI: “NO PEACE, NO SECURITY WITH OCCUPATION”
In 2002, while being tried in court, P*lestinian politician and peace activist Marwan Barghouti gave a powerful speech highlighting how security and peace will never be achieved as long as the Isr*eli occupation continues alongside their policies of curfews, as*assinations and forced displacement.
Marwan Barghouti has been imprisoned since 2002 and was sentenced in 2004 to five consecutive life terms plus 40 years. Since November 2023, he has also been held in solitary confinement and frequently moved between various prisons.
Marwan Barghouti is widely referred to by political analysts as "Pal*stine's Nelson Mandela", and the Isr*eli state has been condemned by human rights organisations globally for imprisoning him without a proper trial, insufficient evidence and under inhumane conditions.
US rapper Macklemore recently paid tribute to Barghouti by wearing a “Free Marwan” T-shirt during the final concert of his "Free Pal*stine Tour" at the OVO Arena Wembley in London on October 30, 2026.
24 years later, Marwan's words echo a reality on the ground, where Isr*el's policies have contributed to a lack of security and pushed the concept of peace further away than it ever was in Pal*stine and beyond.
DID THE UAE KILL ONE OF ITS JOURNALISTS FOR OPPOSING NORMALISATION WITH ISRAEL?
"These Ukrainians are the ones training the [UAE-backed] Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on the use of drones," declared Sudanese Foreign Minister Mohieldin Salem, in comments to Russian outlet Sputnik Africa.
Speaking during the the Third Russia-Africa Summit in Moscow, Salem added that Sudan has "conclusive and material evidence" that Ukrainian snipers and trainers are assisting a militia that the UN has accused of g*nocide.
"Some of them were captured, some of them were k*lled, and some weapons were seized," Salem said.
Pursuing accountability for foreign state aggression, Salem stated that Sudan has escalated the matter across international diplomatic channels, ranging from the UN Security Council to senior US officials.
"[Last year] I was part of a delegation in Washington. We handed over to the Americans many pieces of evidence and documents confirming the use of American weapons leaked from Ukraine and elsewhere," Salem said.
The involvement of Ukrainian personnel demonstrates the escalating global network of complicity in the UAE's war on Sudan.
Investigative reports have exposed Colombian mercenaries deployed to the RSF via the UAE.
On Sudan's eastern border, the RSF relies on neighbouring Ethiopia as a critical launchpad, hosting Emirati-financed training camps, arms shipments, and bases for cross-border drone strikes against Sudan's power grid.
On Sudan's western border, RSF military supplies continue to transit through eastern Chad.
The foreign minister's disclosures underscore how foreign networks continue to fuel the UAE's war on Sudan, driving the RSF's g*nocidal campaigns and devastating Sudan’s infrastructure while evading global accountability mechanisms.
The UAE''s candidate for UN Secretary-General, Lana Nusseibeh, placed fourth in the Security Council’s eighth uncoloured straw poll, in a sign of growing opposition to Abu Dhabi's foreign policy.
"Few want an apologist for the UAE's role sending arms and mercenaries to the g*nocidal Rapid Support Forces in Sudan [at the helm of the UN]" noted former Human Rights Watch director Kenneth Roth.
The vote coincided with a New York Times report that UN investigators found evidence the UAE funded Colombian mercenaries to support the RSF, a militia the UN says perpetrated g*nocide in Sudan.
The article described Nusseibeh as having “led Emirati efforts to deny her country’s role in Sudan.”
Costa Rica’s Rebeca Grynspan widened her lead, securing 12 "encourage" votes and three "discourage" votes, representing the highest tally for any contender to date.
All 15 members of the Council were given identical ballots which did not distinguish between permanent veto-bearing members of the UN Security Counncil (P5) and the other ten members.
This means it is unclear where these votes are coming from.
Despite Grynspan's dominant lead, previous colour-coded balloting indicated two of her "discourage" votes originated from P5 members.
This has prompted speculation that Western P5 nations - the US, UK and France - could use their veto power against Grynspan to clear a path for Nusseibeh.
However, Nusseibeh faces resistance.
The Security Council has signaled a clear preference for candidates from Latin America and the Caribbean, honouring the informal regional rotation system.
Mark Leon Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of UN Dispatches, projects that the Council will now opt for colour-coded ballots.
"At that point, we will get a clearer picture of where Grynspan’s opposition is coming from. And soon thereafter, we should learn whether any P5 members are firmly opposed to her candidacy," he stated.
DID THE UAE KILL ONE OF ITS JOURNALISTS FOR OPPOSING NORMALISATION WITH ISRAEL?
In August 2019, Habib Al Sayegh, editor-in-chief of the prominent Emirati newspaper Al-Khaleej and chairperson of the Emirates Writers Union, published a stinging editorial titled, "Isr*el is our real enemy", denouncing any moves toward open relations with the "Z*onist state".
Al Sayegh asked, “Who authorised the normalizers to speak on behalf of everyone?" before concluding, “We dislike Isr*el, the idea, the project, the danger, the impact, the fear, and the racist religious entity, and we do not want to visit it. We support our P*lestinian brothers in P*lestine and everywhere".
Just nine days later, the UAE's official state news agency announced his sudden death without providing any cause. A year later, Abu Dhabi formally normalised relations with Isr*el under the Abraham Accords.
Now, a newly released book titled, Princes and Thieves written by investigative journalist Matthew Cole, offers an account of what actually happened. Citing a confidential source and corroborated by at least two others, the book alleges that Emirati security forces abducted, detained, t*rtured and k*lled Al Sayegh in retaliation for his public stance against normalisation.
The book alleges that interrogators pulled out several of his teeth with pliers and struck him repeatedly with a sharp metal object. His body was later exhumed and buried in an unmarked desert grave.
Following these allegations, US-based human rights watchdog Democracy for the Arab World Now (DAWN) has formally appealed to UN special rapporteurs, urging an immediate independent international investigation into Al Sayegh's alleged m*rder.
AOC TELLS THE LEFT TO ABANDON PURITY TESTS, LIKE GAZA
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez built her political career challenging the Democratic establishment, promising a new era of progressive politics and accountability. But a New York Times profile portrays a politician increasingly embracing party alliances while encouraging the left to move beyond ideological “purity tests,” almost gaslighting her supporters.
Among the scathing rhetoric is how divisions over Isr*el's war in G*za and the g*nocide are portrayed and diminished by AOC. To many of her critics and supporters, it seems that questions about P*lestinian rights and accountability are being dismissed as political obstacles rather than fundamental principles.
AOC's own voting record has fueled those criticisms. In 2021, she voted “present” rather than opposing an additional $1 billion in funding for Isr*el's Iron Dome mis*ile defence system. In 2025, she voted against an amendment that would have eliminated roughly $500 million in Iron Dome funding, arguing that defensive systems should be distinguished from offensive weapons.
The Democratic Socialists of America even withdrew its national endorsement of AOC in 2024, citing disagreements over P*lestine and her failure to meet several conditions, including opposition to all military funding for Isr*el.
Although AOC has since pledged to oppose all future U.S. military aid to Isr*el, including Iron Dome, her evolving positions continue to raise questions about the relationship between progressive movements and the political establishment, especially when progressives like her, Zohran Mamdani and Abdul El-Sayed, seem to be moving closer to establishment politicians like Obama.
As both major parties face criticism over corporate influence, foreign policy, and their inability to deliver meaningful economic change, voters are left wondering if this even matters, if anything will fundamentally change. It appears not much has.
WASHINGTON GETS ITS OIL. MACHADO RETURNS TO VENEZUELA. WHAT NEXT?
Ultra rightist María Corina Machado has returned to Venezuela, and her arrival raises serious questions about the future of Acting President Delcy Rodríguez and her government.
When questioned about Machado's return, Rodríguez dismissed it as irrelevant. But behind the seemingly irritable public defiance lies a much larger political dilemma.
After a U.S. military invasion kidnapped President Nicolás Maduro on January 3, Rodríguez's interim government entered negotiations with the very country responsible for his removal, agreeing to oil, mining and other economic arrangements that benefited Washington.
Now, as Trump celebrates Venezuelan oil arriving in Texas, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is openly pressing for a political transition.
So what exactly did Venezuela gain by negotiating from a position of weakness?
For decades, Washington has sought to dismantle Venezuela's socialist political project and replace it with a government more closely aligned with U.S. economic and geopolitical interests. There is little reason to assume those objectives have disappeared simply because Washington found Rodríguez useful as a negotiating partner.
Machado's return, reportedly discussed in advance with Venezuelan authorities, only intensifies questions about the government's remaining leverage.
Rodríguez’s economic concessions may not guarantee her political survival, but rather it may allow the U.S. to secure its interests while demanding more concessions. The question is: Did Rodríguez negotiate a path to defend Venezuela's sovereignty or did she actually help Washington secure its interests while weakening Caracas’s?
What is clear is that Venezuela's future should be decided by the Venezuelan people, not by a foreign power trying to control its domestic, electoral and foreign policies.
EXPOSING NGO EXPLOITATION OF INDIGENOUS LAND
As billions are invested globally in environmental conservation, Indigenous communities protecting some of the world's most important ecosystems are questioning who actually benefits from saving the Amazon.
In an interview with Sovereign Media's Ahmed Kaballo, Paz Panjobiteri, a representative of the Kichwa nationality of Pastaza, Ecuador, challenges what she describes as “colonial conservationist agendas” or initiatives that generate revenue through national parks, protected reserves, luxury tourism, and conservation projects while Indigenous communities struggle to benefit from the wealth generated on their ancestral lands.
Panjobiteri questions how much of the money collected through tourism packages, hotels, and conservation programs actually reaches the Indigenous peoples whose territories are incorporated into these projects.
She argues that these initiatives reproduce historical patterns of colonial exploitation, where governments and outside interests promise development and prosperity while local communities experience displacement, poverty, and the loss of territorial control.
The contradiction: Indigenous peoples have protected these ecosystems for generations, yet others increasingly profit from their conservation.
For Panjobiteri, protecting the Amazon cannot mean excluding the very communities whose ancestral knowledge and stewardship have sustained it.

UK REFUSES TO INVESTIGATE EMIRATI OWNER OF MANCHESTER CITY OVER SUDAN GENOCIDE
The UK government is reportedly refusing to investigate UAE Vice-President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the billionaire owner of Manchester City Football Club, for his direct role in funding state-sponsored atrocities in Sudan.
As reported by The Daily Telegraph, UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband was presented with a detailed dossier outlining Sheikh Mansour’s links to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a militia confirmed by UN investigators to have committed g*nocide in the western Sudanese city of Al-Fashir in October 2025.
Despite announcing sanctions against individual RSF leaders on the one-year anniversary of the g*nocide in Al-Fashir, Miliband reportedly rejected calls to investigate or sanction the Manchester City owner.
A New York Times investigation previously exposed how CIA-intercepted phone calls caught Sheikh Mansour directly coordinating with RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, better known as Hemedti.
It was revealed that "humanitarian hospitals" established under Sheikh Mansour's charities were used as cover for supplying the militia with weapons.
The refusal to act comes as the UAE has been accused of "blackmailing" the UK over a separate scandal linked to Sheikh Mansour.
In September 2026, the Premier League - England's highest football league - found Emirati state-owned Manchester City guilty of financial cheating.
However, UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said he would be “really concerned” if Sheikh Mansour was forced to sell the club, with the UAE reportedly threatening to withhold investments from the UK over Manchester City’s guilty verdict.
With the UK being unable to call out the UAE even as the latter threatens the integrity of a British institution like the Premier League, it raises the question: what can the UAE do for Sudanese victims of a UAE-funded g*nocide?
THE CASE AGAINST MAMDANI'S NEW YORK POLICE FORCE
In this video, a New York City resident criticises Mayor Mamdani's choice to retain Jessica Tish, a staunch zi*nist, as the city's police commissioner.
She highlights how, since Mamdani's rise to power, New York City police have shoved a congressman, hit civilian protesters and failed to hold Koran Irvine's murderer accountable.
