I told our Somali Referee Omar Artan that while his World Cup officiating dream may have been delayed, it has never been diminished. Long before a ball is kicked, he has already won the hearts of millions and secured his place in history.

Omar Artan has done more than unite the footballing world, he has ignited hope in every child who dares to dream beyond the horizon. Dreams may be deferred, but they are never defeated.

I extend my deepest gratitude to FIFA and CAF for recognizing and believing in his talent, integrity, and dedication throughout the years.

For a lifetime, Omar carried a whistle not as a symbol of authority, but as a commitment to fairness, justice, and the spirit of the game. He devoted himself to ensuring that football was decided by merit, yet fate denied him the stage he so richly deserved.

Today, I had the honor of hosting Omar Artan, an icon, a role model, and living proof that true greatness is not measured by the matches you officiate, but by the lives you inspire.

Omar's journey reminds us all that character outlasts circumstance, and that those who stand for fairness ultimately leave the deepest legacy

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development invites applications for the Blue Grant Scholarship under the BE-Prosper initiative.

In partnership with the University of British Columbia (UBC), this programme offers graduate study opportunities in Canada for candidates from Djibouti, Somalia, and South Sudan, focusing on blue economy, fisheries, and ocean governance.

🎓 Key Highlights

Two-step process: IGAD screening → UBC admission
Fields: marine sciences, environmental economics, engineering, and related areas
Financial support available (tuition, stipend, travel – subject to conditions)

🌍 Eligibility
Professionals (25–40) with a relevant degree, experience, and a strong commitment to sustainable blue economy development in the IGAD region.

The @IGADLeadership Alumni Network today convened a regional webinar to deliberate on the ways that youth platforms can contribute to peace and security efforts in the IGAD region. The event brought together youth from across the region and beyond, who shared experiences and practical insights on strengthening youth-led peace initiatives.
In his address, ILA Director @DrKinyanjui commended the youth for increasingly demonstrating leadership and readiness to seek solutions to issues facing the continent.
Mr Moges Ali from the IGAD Peace and Security Division emphasised the need for the youth to strategically organise themselves to ensure their initiatives make meaningful impact.
Other panellists, including Ms Wanjiku Kamau of @iphrdafrica and Safia Mohamed of Somalia Justice and Development Initiative, urged meaningful youth inclusion in governance and peace efforts.
Alumni initiatives not only amplify ILA’s post-training engagement but also reflect the growing impact of the Academy’s mission to empower youth to contribute meaningfully to leadership, peacebuilding, and governance.
