Now that I’ve studied measure theory, although it might not appear interesting, the Minkowski metric used in general relativity to define geodesics on spacetime manifolds is not a true Riemannian metric but a pseudo-Riemannian (Lorentzian) metric.

Here is an extract from my recent note: "Now, one might say that AI models generating proofs formally verify their proofs; perhaps that could be the 'alien' access to mathematical truth. Well, I could grant my dumb brain, hand, and paper to mindlessly execute the steps, a set of more steps taking care of formal verification. Again, it doesn't make sense to say that I understand the proof now. In fact, I could say that the one who really understands, or is capable of understanding, the proof is the one who gave my dumb self the steps to follow."

It occurred to me that the instructions themselves could have been generated out of a box, hosting a "clerk" with their own set of instructions (likely an AI/stochastic algorithm), which they executed mindlessly, given their unlimited paper-and-pen supply. And I can extend this chain forever.

Now, the question that really intrigues me -- where, and more importantly, if anywhere, in the entire "causal" chain should we locate mathematical understanding?
