I hosted a Claude Code meetup today in Austin to talk about Agents, Skills, OpenClaw and context management

Here’s the agenda if you want to do one yourself:

9:00A — start. Yes that’s early! But I found more serious people come if you do this during work hours

9:10A — introductions. Quick go-around for people to say their name and what they’re working on

9:20A — small groups. Split into groups of 3-4 to talk more deeply about what you’re building and how you use Agents and Claude Code etc

9:30A — mix and mingle. I bought breakfast tacos ($350) and our venue sponsor let us drink their coffee

9:45A — discussions on topics:

OpenClaw
Context Management

Everyone picked one of these groups and went for demos and questions

10:15A — mix and mingle. Good meetups have time for both structured and unstructured convos!

10:30A — demos in the classroom, this is where I took the photo. We got share-outs from each of the breakout sessions

Using Codex for checking code
NanoBanana API use

And a bunch more.

We were done by 11:30A and some folks stuck around for another 20-30 mins.

Overall it was one of my best meetups on a technical subject. I got a lot of great feedback

@OracleCloud And if you don't, you'll just tear it down and try again. That's what we do on AWS's free tier anyway, but you don't have to create a new account to reset that clock on Oracle. And your instances are free forever instead of 750 hours/month

@OracleCloud's strategy of giving developers a metric heckton of always-free resources is the right approach for cloud platforms. If you fully utilize your 6 CPUs, 26 GB memory, DBs, and other goodies, you'll eventually build something valuable enough to scale up and start paying

You don't have to fill out the blue slip anymore if you enter China through Shanghai Pudong. You can check in on your phone from the immigration line and then they'll have it on their computer when they scan your passport. Not bad

Trends indicate investment in cloud is growing, and firms are reporting they still need a better understanding of the space. Is that sentiment coming from fully migrated firms and cloud-native startups, or is there still value to be gained from moving on-prem SMBs to the cloud?

Does the shift to cloud computing remain ongoing, or is it in a stalled/completed state?

Completed means the firms moving their infrastructure to the cloud have done it. Stalled means the ones who remain on-premises will stay there.

Today I did some webdev from a motorboat while browsing a floating market in rural Bangkok. I debugged automation scripts on CodeSnack and tested the workflow I was editing on GitHub mobile. And I actually got work done. Tsks like this are entering their Snow Crash era
