For the last 6 months, @aang254, @original_lego11 and myself have been working on a new X-Band downconverter. Many prototypes and 3 revisions later, we are happy to report it works great!
Since we all ♥️ NOAA 15, @SP5EWS added calibration to it in #SatDump, so you can do SCIENCE with it! 🧪

This time its taken at 38.000km, so we can see whole globe viewed from north. The HEO orbit changes its altitude all the time from 1000 up to 38.000 km. We have also got a sun reflection on Atlantic Ocean.

@VaishabhJ@plugger_lockett@Nooelec@airspy_com@aang254 You should use the FY-2x S-VISSR pipeline, with over 1MHz bandwidth (I usually do 3MSPS). All the rest will depend on your setup, but should be easy enough to figure out
Finally got GK-2A HRIT tonight! I setup my 1.8m prime and used my cantenna held by hand, but it was enough!

Natural color and some MWRI-RM composites were added to SatDump.
7790 MHz, hand tracked 1.2m dish, very strong!

It's very experimental and not meant to be run for long, but basically it is a 4m dish with a feed based on VE4MA's design, a G4DDK VLNA and some other bits and pieces. Getting ~2.5dB SNR on avg. (Bannana for scale)
You’ve probably seen artists’ renderings of #Landsat satellites in orbit... but how about an *actual image* of a satellite in orbit?
Thanks to Maxar, we now have images of Landsat 8 orbiting Earth from the WorldView-3 satellite.

A really interesting thing visble from NOAA-18 today (data from @Crosswalkersam). The two bright areas are steelworks around Duisburg. Other industrial facilities are also possible to spot around other cities. Very surprising they are clearly visible! AVHRR ch3B brightness temp.
