WildBrain has announced it will shut down its Canadian television broadcast business. This closure affects channels like Family Channel, Family Jr., WildBrainTV, and Télémagino, which will cease broadcasting in the coming months. This decision was made after a failed negotiation with Rogers Communications and a previous decision by Bell to remove its channels.

As a direct result, a planned sale of the channels to IoM Media Ventures has been canceled.

Josh Scherba, WildBrain's President and CEO, said that the channels are no longer commercially viable. The company will surrender its broadcast licenses to the CRTC and will no longer be subject to certain Canadian ownership restrictions. WildBrain plans to simplify its voting structure, which will give it greater strategic flexibility.

Despite the shutdown, the company says the impact on its overall business is minimal and its strategy remains unchanged. WildBrain will continue to focus on leveraging its key IPs, such as Peanuts, Strawberry Shortcake, and Teletubbies, across a diversified portfolio that includes streaming, YouTube, consumer products, and fan experiences.
