@ghostonthstereo @def__sam__self @cpsocialprmgmnt@shwinyo For an oil lantern nah, probably snuffed it out with some kind of device (don't recommend throwing water on an oil fire!!). But I'm no expert and wasn't there so idk -- I just know the principle behind Shabbat is that it is a day dedicated to rest so certain actions are forbidden
@ghostonthstereo @def__sam__self @cpsocialprmgmnt@shwinyo Obv modern technology has changed the level of effort, so there are many interpretations of how it applies to the modern day. The most "orthodox" have stricter interpretations. Most American Jews are much more lenient or are non-religious entirely
@ghostonthstereo @def__sam__self @cpsocialprmgmnt@shwinyo The law was written over 5000 years ago and is related to the effort it took to change out oil lanterns. Since Shabbat is the day of rest, the idea is that you don't undertake that strenuous of a task.
@ghostonthstereo @def__sam__self @cpsocialprmgmnt@shwinyo If there was a fire that was threatening anyone's life, that is allowed to be extinguished. A threat to anyone's life supersedes following the rules (which were written over 5000 years ago and have many interpretations). Also most don't follow strictly since many Jews are secular
@MarkLazerus Every other comparable sport has a cage. Nobody says football players arenโt marketable cause of it! I love the violence of the sport but the lack of face/head protection is just masochism
